If they have a vest, they are a worker not a spectator. (Rally workers are basically spectators with responsibilities, they are generally always volunteers)
Yeah, good point. Still, the video shows workers <10 feet from the edge of the *outside* of a corner!

You know, people make fun of Lada's but they actually had the same chassis as a Fiat 124 Spider. Double A arm front end and a full 5 link rear end. And the rear brakes were huge funky aluminum finned drums with iron liners.
I put a Fiat Twin cam and five speed in one (bolted right in). It was a hoot.
It may not have been the best rally car, but I appreciate the 4-door Sierra Sapphire for some reason.
VHS Rallies deigned to repost something they had rights-claimed removed from YouTube a while back.
There's an early cameo of Colin MacRae (he crashes out, of course) but fair warning: watching this WILL make you want an E30. Or an XR4Ti. Or a Pontiac LeMans.

I always thought the LeMans with the proper gear would be a fun car!
Damn is Malcolm Wilson looking young in that video!!!

He looked like a kid when he was rallying in the Group B era. It's also somewhat bittersweet to see Mark Lovell at a rally.
Speaking of kids, an offhand comment by the commentator makes me wonder if part of Colin's drive was to be seen as more than just Jimmy's son?
I think EvanB has owned a copy of four of the first five cars.
The 6th car (cover image) punching a tree and instantly losing its radiator was painful to watch.
Apparently they sometimes let loose people in unprepared cars with no safety equipment.

For now. I'll have an E36 compact someday.

That yellow Volvo wagon was seriously going for it. I cracked up when it caught air.
And then the Ford Escort looked like it was going to do a front flip.
Not technically rally but it starts with Rod Millen.
Can someone here help me find a particular video of a stage rally?
I first saw it one here years ago. Its a guy limping his broken rally car to the next stage. As he is driving parts are falling off the car and by the end, I think he is wheel-less in the rear and just dragging the car to the end of the stage. The car is in pieces.
Anyone know this clip?

Probably Sebastian Loeb, Greece (Rally Acropolis), 2003, might have been 2006. All the good versions have been DMCA'd but I know some stuff can be found with digging. Let me see what I can find.
Video should start at 36:48, if not then jump to that. Or watch the whole rally, it was a real bastard for the competitors and this was back when Eurosport had good reporting and editing.
Knurled, thats the one! Thank you for the info on it and the video!

It's one of my favorite ones because the service crew got the car put back together in service with no time penalties; If you listen, they basically replaced everything but the engine.
I forget if it was that incident or another one, but not too long after that the FIA added a rule that vehicles must be able to transit on all four wheels. No dragging a car 70km on the rear subframe anymore.
^ LOL at turn 1 coming in hot.
So whats with French Rally drivers named Sébastien? Both Loeb and Ogier are 2 of the greatest top level drivers.
also 52 mins of Rally Wales 2007 with absolutely terrible weather.
