I've had ramen and similar noodles in at places in Japan where they broth and noodles fresh. That is a totally different experience than you get by the case at Costco.

Ain't that the truth.
Even the package stuff in Japan is way better. I personally like the Maruchan Yakisoba spicy chicken best. I know its not really yakisoba. I get that at the asian markets. What I would love to have is some UFO yakisoba but the USDA banned the import of it.

Because that stuff is so much better for you. I'll take my chances with the seasoning.
chicken....but if they're available and the price is similar (i.e. when pigs fly) I prefer mi goreng to ramen
41 years on this planet and I've never eaten the danged things. My roomates used to, just the smell made me wretch.

Personally, I like the stuff. It's like anything else, in moderation it's not going to hurt you. Just don't try to live on it like Ditchdigger's coworker.
I'm also beef/chicken neutral. I prefer both the pork and shrimp flavors over both, with shrimp edging out pork only because I usually have frozen shrimp on hand that I can throw in with the soup.
I also cook my noodles with the flavor packet dissolved in the water, then I throw the broth away.
You can add stuff and make a decent meal. Diced hotdogs, potatoes, drop an egg in, peppers, favorite veggies, use your imagination. After cooked, drop a slice of cheese in. Or dump a small can of chili in it, tastes better than it sounds. There are some salad recipes that use the dry noodles crumbled into the salad. I think if Ditchdigger coworker would have mixed other stuff into it he wouldn't have gotten sick, he would have had a slightly better balanced meal.
It's my favorite when I'm not feeling well.
When I was in the army, used to bring Ramen pack to the field with me and mix MRE's into them. Ham slice diced up is good and my favorite was chicken-ala-king mixed into it. Got meat and veggies with that. Used to use 2 unsharpened, new wooden pencils for chopsticks.
I lived on those things in college but never managed to pass out, although I do have borderline high blood pressure now. Hmmmm....
give me the spicy chicken or the oriental flavor, but only half the seasoning pack. The yakisoba brands are really good, but nothing like the street vendors in Shenzhen sold. OMFG that was good grub.
Somebody told me about a county-jail special dinner - crush up one pack of ramen into a gallon ziplock, add one small snack bag of cheetos (crushed) and tear up one slim jim into it, then put in just enough hot tap water to cover the noodles, let stand for 5 minutes, enjoy. Supposedly his jail-frequenting brother fixed this for his kids all the time. Never tried it myself..
5 minute, one dish, spaghetti; Cook Ramen in microwave, drain, add bottled spaghetti sauce of choice, heat in microwave. Eat.
3 minute seafood noodles; Cook Ramen in microwave, drain, add can of tuna, flavor lightly with chicken packet. Eat.
Man, I'm glad I'm not single anymore.

I saw chili top ramen just like last week. I dont eat it though. lol
Spicy Chicken > Roast Beef > Creamy Chicken > Roast Chicken > Pork > Beef > Chicken > Chicken Mushroom > Shoelaces > Shrimp
In reply to JoeyM:
Mi goreng is delicious. I like to serve it with a fried egg, for some semblance of nutrition.
Also, after having watched Tampopo, I want to try real ramen noodles.
Wow. Two pages of desperate people subsisting on Ramen. If this isn't an indictment of the current administration, I don't know what is!
With my recent trip to San Fran/Oakland, I was heavily disappointed when I didn't make it to the Raman noodle restaurant around the corner from the hotel.
(Why can't I get a Raman noodle shop in Wisconsin?)

Who's desperate? Who's subsisting on Ramen? What does it have to do with the current administration?
One of my roommate made it with whiskey. I consumed enough of that crap in college. I will never touch it again.

That sounds indicitive of another problem aside from being a broke-ass college student.
