I remember back in the day someone mentioning this on this forum and someone else suggesting a low sodium, equally cheap product that tasted similar.

hey! no floundering this thread!
This is about sodium filled badness for your health.
Personally, when I used to eat it.. I would boil it in water with the packet.. and then drain off the water. I never drank the broth.
And Beef
I got a story about these things. One night when I was in high school, me and a buddy stayed up late at his house playing Gran Turismo 2. At about 1 in the morning, we were hungry, so we each made two packs of Ramen. I hate about 3/4 of mine and passed out on the couch. In the morning, my leftover Ramen had congealed into something akin to a cross between Jello and what I imagine Jabba the Hutt's sweat to look like.
I haven't eaten instant Ramen since then.

Werd....way better than the cup o needles and maruchan brand... i prefer to crack an egg on top of it.
I had ramen this morning, partly due to this thread.
I need to go out to Uwajimaya and get some more of the nifty imported ramen of many packets.
I prefer Shrimp Maruchan.
But what I've been doing lately is buying rice noodles and putting McKays seasoning on it. Its a fake chicken seasoning that tastes exactly like the neon yellow fat powder that comes with Ramen noodles, but its Vegan and has no fat. From their website:

Maybe with values that small they just round up, but with no protein calories, no fat calories, I only see 6 calories worth of carbohydrates in the beef, and 8 in the chicken... Do they just round up to 10 for totals?
In any case, I'll have to ponder something like that. Real noodles would probably be a good start. I'm a little scared of everything-free stuff that tastes like anything, but I'm sure I can come up with something to put on the noodles. Maybe a little miso paste in water...
EDIT: Is there a proper name for the type of noodles in ramen that might be found filed under something other than "ramen"?
