I haven't worn a watch for a while. I gave them up as a New Year's Resolution back in 2013 since I realized my phone is just about always in my pocket and it tells time plus a whole lot more. A watch is now redundant as a time telling device and only exists to make a fashion statement or as a tool for luddites.

Automatics are EMP proof if you're into that sort of thing. 
I got a NATO/ZULU band for my old Seiko a few weeks back and have been trying to wear it more regularly.
I do find that I'm much more aware of time with it, despite checking my phone regularly. I noticed that I often will use my phone and kind of ignore the time, where as with the watch it's much easier to just glance at it and say "oh I've gotta do that thing in 10 minutes".
I think a watchband says much more about a person than the watch itself.

I took a gamble on two watches for $30. One was a soviet railroad watch and the other a neat blue face with Cyrillic numbers. I gave the railroad watch to a Russian coworker whose father was a conductor before moving here and break out the other one occasionally to confuse people.
Edit: I think it was Keith in another watch thread that sent me looking at the soviet watches.
We'll you've all inspired me. I dug out one of the old Casios put a new battery in it and plan to put it back in daily use. The phone will go in the locker at work.
Watch. Android Wear, an LG G Watch Urbane. Notifications on my wrist is awfully nice to have.

Good point. I guess sundials are too and if there is some massive EMP then the exact minute doesn't seem all that important, but a cool watch would provide something to look at and enjoy I guess.

If there's an EMP Work will still expect me to try and find a way to get peple home and keep some kind of track of what/when I did things. I'm adding a sundial to my emergency kit.

I like the matte finish and clean lines on that watch. A nice leather band is always a good choice.
I'm in the "wears-a-watch" camp. I wear a Bertucci A2-T High Polish almost every day. The titanium case is essentially indestructible and the bezel is raised to protect the crystal. The girlfriend got me a killer Horween leather band for Christmas that I use for daily wear. Camping/outdoor activities get the nylon band the watch came with.
I can't leave the house without one, can't wear them at home. Kinda strange. My everyday watch is a Seiko Kinetic. No batteries, no winding, I love it. The watch itself is black, and I have several different bands, so I change out if I feel like I need a new watch look. I do have other fancier watches, but this is my favorite. But I like watches about as much as I like cars.
I don't like jewelry much. Wore a watch when I was younger, but quit when I was a resident. Had a pager with the time on it with me 24/7, and I did not have to worry about losing my watch when I took it off for a surgical case. I have a few nice watches still, gave the TAG Heuer to my brother. Got the TAG, when I traded the pen I got when I finished the residency for a watch at the jewelry store.
I can't stand quartz watches.
One day, eventually, it WILL be destroyed by a leaking battery.
Ok, it's been a week and my observations are slightly interesting. To me at least.
It took me three days to stop reaching for my phone fifteen times a day that was usually clipped to my belt.
The watch went back on my wrist and honestly it felt like it never left. I put it on in the morning without even thinking about it. It's automatic, like putting on pants. I haven't forgotten it once which is more than I can say for the phone.
The Casio is a little big and can be cumbersome during the day. I'm going to look for something a little less bulky for daily wear.
I do have to say that if I forget my watch for some reason I am out of sync the entire day. Which is strange when you consider we are surrounded by clocks. Car/computer/phone/ipad/wall.
I like to wear watches, have one on most of the time and take off at night. Thinking of slimming down my collection - have 6 currently want to get it down to ~3.
Magrette Dual Time stainless/black bezel (S/N 009 of 500) on a black or orange Zulu or nubuck leather strap with Panerai style deploy clasp, my favorite watch.
Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer quartz chrono (H76552955) on black or orange Zulu, kept wonderful time on its original battery - unfortunately loosing WAY too much time since its battery change. Maybe will try another battery, but probably will let it go even though it is one of my favorites aesthetically...
Bulova Accutron II Snorkel diver (model 96B208) on an Isofrane rubber strap - sweeping hand sooo smooooth for a quartz, Grand Seiko springdrive smooth! Lume is absolutely horrible though... my only complaint about it. May get rid of, maybe not.
Lum-tec M48 (S/N 006 of 100) on a Bonneto Cinturini model 300 Italian rubber clasp strap - needs battery changed. Very similar in style to the Magrette (both Panerai influenced) though single crown - very nice single crown manipulation too. Looking to get rid of.

Casio HDD-S100 solar, used as shower alarm /hazardous work - inexpensive, tough, and no battery.
Only watch I would be thinking about maybe getting is the upcoming Magrette Moana Pacific Diver II...
It took me a few years to get accustomed to wearing a watch. I had a tendency to look at it repeatedly, not a good thing when you're on a date!
I spent a few years using a pocket watch instead, but also ended up running a few of them through the washing machine. I was a harness racing horse trainer for my first career, so carried a stopwatch too.
I need to wear a watch at work, as I'm constantly noting heart and respiratory rates on the dogs and cats.
I wear a Wegner Swiss Military daily, occasionally will wear a cheap analog Casio when working on the yard, cars, etc.
Got a good deal on the Wegner on eBay, refurbished factory second, new in the box with warranty. Down side is sending it for service every few years by an authorized service center.
To avoid the battery changes I've been wanting a Citizen Echo Drive in titanium, but that's a real extravagance for me. Even the refurbished and seconds are 200 on eBay.
