...#1 son likes R/C stuff and has gotten to be pretty proficient at flying a small helicopter indoors. Would like to get him a quad--maybe one with a camera that can go outside on light-wind days.
I found a Hubsan X4 H107C locally for about $65...that seems pretty fair for the price based on amazon and ebay. Is there any better choice maybe up to about $85?
Looks like this...

I also saw a WLToys V959 online...its about the same price.

I am leaning towards the Hubsan one only because I can get it locally and thus have an easier time with "issues", should they arise.
Anyone have experience with these, or other quads?
I don't have a quick answer, but these guys find out what's good and what sucks, pretty quick.

My local 15 year old has what I think is a "Blade Nano QX". Very impressive indoors, not sure about outside. No camera, but plenty of tricks. He's replaced just about every bit of the thing except maybe the controller, I believe just from parts available at the local hobby shop.
10 minutes of flying time off a very small battery. You'll need several.
We wanted to find out how much extra weight it could lift. Stuck a penny on the bottom using some double-sided tape. The thing could fly, but barely. Not much extra oomph apparently.
Definitely make sure you can get spare parts easily and locally.
Huh didn't know they were available with cameras for that cheap...
If a local RC shop supports the Hubsan go with that. Even if you take good care of them you'll probably have a worn down battery or burnt out motor pretty soon.
Played with one of these over tday and berkeleying loved it, fwiw:

I got this off a government surplus site for $120. Just cruise the sites, they come up from time to time.

LOL! Kidding.
It's not a quadcopter, but I bought one of those $29 cheapies at Wally World. Damn thing is a lot of fun but the cat hates it. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)

The syma x1 gets a lot of suggestions. The hubsan is good but extremely agile which can be frustrating from a learning perspective
Sorry. Wrong "Nano" earlier. This is thee juan. $80 WITH transmitter. Tons o' fun.

'Copters are strangely absent in the world of Hong Nor.
