Most nights, I wind down by reading or using a tablet while sitting or partly reclining on a small sofa. The ergonomics of holding a book/tablet in those seating positions are poor, and I'm developing back pain from it.
I'm thinking that a small recliner may suit my needs better, and help with my back. What seating do you like to use while reading? Have any recommendations?
I believe in buying Lazyboy brand - expensive but they hold up as I'm a big guy.
Wife buys the Costco versions that suck.
Father-in-law thinks Lazyboy brand is too expensive and buys the $299 version at Menards and those suck too.
+1 on Lay-a-Boy. I've had two over almost 30 years. Probably should have reskinned the first one, as it was still mechanically strong.
Lay-Z-Boy or GTFO. The only way to go.
I was at Jordan's furniture last fall and recliners are now more complicated than some of my cars. Got to try several and oh yes are they nice. My wife has wanted to toss the sectional we have so I am lobbying for a regular sofa and a recliner.
La Z Boy is great and they're everywhere but give a lot of chairs a test drive. I'm 5'6" and settled on a Bradington-Young recliner with ottoman. Big, comfortable looking Lazy Boys made me feel and look like a kid sitting on dad's chair. Just like a car you want thigh cushioning out to your knee joint, not longer or shorter. Enjoy your search!

I'm gonna do something completely different and...
Not recommend lazy boy.
I'm gonna recommend the chair I'm sitting in.
It is the vintage autumn chair from havertys.

This, but mine is blue.
There are no buttons. There are no handles. It is not powered in any way, shape or form. You lean back, it reclines. You sit up, it unreclines. The base mechanism is manufactured by a place called ultra-mek out of Denton, NC.
I specifically chose this chair....on accident. I refuse to buy furniture with electric E36 M3 in it, because stuff burns out and I'm not trying to rewire a couch. Most of the mechanisms I've seen while shopping *appear* fancy and wonderful but it's that fake glitz sheen you see trying to fool the rubes that really puts me off. When I saw this chair I was fixing to leave the furniture store empty handed. I'd already witnessed a fight at another furniture store for the commission (Florida, y'all) and was in a bad mood. This chair was MASSIVELY on clearance due to being a weird color (like I said, it's blue) and I sat in it for about two seconds before I realized it was perfect.
