I can say with almost certainty that this type of guy would never spray pepper spray on motorcyclists and the type of guy that would spray motorcyclists would never be this type of guy.
I am grateful for people like him, he was in it for the right reasons.
I just wish there was a way to screen for it.

It's very apparent early on, just not easy to explain why you're canning officers you just paid to train.
awesome man... we need to hear more about cops who give it their all rather than the few who ruin it all for the rest
I think his family is from one town over from me. This has been all over the news here the last day of so. I think there is going to be a very big State Police presence at the funeral.
Tampa paper says the funeral is today. Of course there will be a very large group of Fla officers, but apparently a very large contingent of Mass cops as well. Hard to say goodby to a real hero.
I have to say that because of this, I now know that my cousin blocks me on FB. He is all gung-ho on a lot of things and as he tried (and failed) to be a cop, posts everything and anything that puts them in a positive light. I posted that story on my timeline... nothing from him.
Can't say I am upset
I wish the national news outlets would focus on this story. We hear so much about bad cops these days---- it would be nice to honor this man for going above and beyond the line of duty. All cops aren't good cops----but some are, and we need them now more than ever. The hero cops should be celebrated and honored, at least as much as the bad ones are vilified.

Well Said!!!

Ratings, and possibly more. It truly is sad as daily there are probably 99 good experiences for every bad experience.
I'm still in awe of the act this fine gentleman did.

Dean, I think you may be thinking of the MSP officer run over on the turnpike. He went to my parents' church . I think the one from the OP was from somewhere on the south shore.
I agree though, it seems that stories like this need to be shared, rather than the standard media narrative of turning the police into The Enemy. There's good and bad everywhere, but apparently bad sells media ratings.
