I recently picked up a set of KONI Racing Shocks for my 67 Spitfire. One of the shocks is a little "stiff" and could probably use a rebuild. KONI wants $125 plus parts to rebuild their shocks. I'm hoping for a cheaper solution if one is available. Has anybody on the forum rebuilt KONIs? I've looked on UTUBE but didn't find what I was looking for. Any help or suggestions if you know of a reputable rebuilder is appreciated.

There was an article that mentioned a Koni rebuilder in GRM a while back. Maybe someone remembers that.

I know there is a place in Southern California that rebuilds Konis. I don't have the info with me now, but I believe it is associated with or right next to Tri-point engineering in Chatsworth.

I want to look into getting some older Konis converted to externally adjustable. In your case, I am guessing you cannot buy the shocks new? Probably cheaper if you can.

Edit:

The name of the place is ProParts:

Looks like they have a pretty good selection of services

I've got KONIs for my Vair and I found a great deal on them for $385/full set that was about 10 years ago. I've looked for them for my Spit but from the vendors that I tried to source them from they no longer carried them. So with that in mind I picked up these on ebay. Even if I have to get them rebuilt I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run. Thanks for the link...they are about $10/shock cheaper than KONI.

Your question was answered over on the Spitfire forum, what, two weeks ago?

Several folks there have done it, and told you how. Including the unrebuildable ones.

Hmmm... that's not a lot of information there and it doesn't provide any links to rebuilders.

The only info is that you can use a vice and a pipe wrench to rebuild them and you can change the fluid.

What about seals? Do you just source those from Granger or something? I have a set that is a bit leaky. I should probably take a look at taking them apart. As I remember it looked like they were taken apart via some sort of slot type assembly (kind of like a watch back) that surrounds the shaft..

I have a set that must be 30+ years old. They are a bit rough, but still have the old stickers on them:

Looks like these without the "Classic" text

In looking for vendors who rebuild KONIs I've only found the one and that was the link you provided. They are $10 a shock cheaper to rebuild than KONI. Everyone that I called informed me that they don't rebuild KONI's. Not sure why. My shocks were repainted red so there are not any visible stickers on them. Just doing a visual inpsection I don't see how they can be disassembled with as mentioned. I'm not sure where the seals can be sourced either. Canley Classics no longer stocks them so I guess made the right choice this time.
