So, my shop shares a wall with a business that deals with smoke and water damage. The lady that runs the place is, well, redneck (fat, covered in really bad tatoos, etc...). Anyway, she comes barging through the front door yelling at me while I'm sitting in my office on the phone ordering parts. She is under the impression that I've been "running %^&*ing cars inside all day" and it's making her part of the building stink. I politely inform her that the only car that's been inside all day is getting detailed, and that I generally don't run cars inside for extended periods because I don't care for the smell either. She storms out pissed off.
Fast forward 3 hours, she comes blasting through the door again claiming I'm running cars inside. Again, the only car that's been inside all day is still getting detailed. This time she's rude enough that I have to ask her to leave.
About 2 hours later, she comes over to bitch again. This time she claims that we're smoking cigarettes inside and she can somehow smell it through the block wall. Also, I guess we've been putting trash in her dumpster for some reason, and she's sick of it (I'm really not sure where this stuff is coming from). I'm not there, but my business partner is. He's not the sort of guy you yell at and just get away with it, so he bluntly tells her what she can stick in various parts of her anatomy.
Five minutes later, a cop shows up. He agrees that the car inside is most assuredly not running, and the building does not smell of cigarettes. The cop ended up scheduling his personal truck for some service, so her attempt to mess with me only got me more business.
If she continues down this path I'm going to call the EPA and let them know about her dumping used chemicals in the woods behind the building. I guarantee that won't work out well for her.
I'd go ahead and get the video evidence lined up on that. It'll come in handy, sounds like. Some people just won't listen.
pretty worthless individual there, or she could just simply be bananas.

I have some wierd neighbors, but they are considerate enough to not come to my front door. Might have something to do with my killer dauchshund.

I wouldn't even think that's necessary.
I'd imagine the EPA could test the soil for contamination, maybe?
Oh and OP, I say if she really is illegally dumping poisonous chemicals into the soil, you should report her anyway.
I'm no granola-eating, hippie who thinks we should give up driving fast cars and using AC in our homes, but willfully breaking the law and berkeleying up the environment is uncalled for.

+1 I don't stand for that E36 M3 either.

3rded, and I like big evil V-8's.
Seriously, that stuff will sink into the watertable and eventually end up in drinking water. Especially if anyone is on a well around there.
If you really want someone's head to explode, laugh at them. Continuously... until they leave. That really berkelys with angry people.
The cigarette smoke and exhaust is comiing from somewhere, trace it out. If you show that a neighbor is piping the stuff in through her oven exhaust fan or something, she'll STFU.

What strikes me as weird is that if she's in the smoke damage business, one might assume she was immune to the odor of combustibles by now..

+1 billion. IMMEDIIATELY.
Look at it this way...If what you say is true, then YOU are responsible when some kid gets sick or dies after those chemicals leach into the water table, because you FAILED to say anything.
Why would you let her do that???

That's not a hippie treehugger issue. It's a major issue for anyone who drinks water in that area--period. She should literally be in prison for doing that.
I agree with what everyone said above.
Call the EPA and let them do their job. They are the professionals and have a job to do. All you have to do is call it in and move on with your life.
fun times......

Eh, I've only actually witnessed it once. That business is moving down the street in two weeks, I'll wait a few weeks after they move and then let the EPA know.

no cause the new owner will then be responsible for the cleanup. Whoever, possesses the land is required to clean it.. They then have to go after renters or previous owners in court to get the money back.

I can't help it, especially when people are road raging. I can vouch for the fact that people get mad.

usually you call the state environmental agency first.
maybe she has been inhaling those chemicals a bit too much while dumping them?
I also agree with calling somebody about the dumping. Nobody needs that crap

Another non-treehugger here who agrees wholeheartedly. ignorant's right, it needs to be reported BEFORE she bails, otherwise the new guy (or the property owner if it's a rental unit) gets stuck cleaning up her nasty mess.
Pictures of dumping in action would be wunnerful.

It works with significant others too.
