Anyone good with appliance repair, namely refrigerators? I have a side by side, IIRC it's a GE, but I'm at work right now. It's a big one, and is about 6 or 7 years old.

Last night we noticed the fridge didn't seem as cold as it normally is. This morning, there was no doubt about it. The freezer seems to be working fine.

I know the fridge draws it's cold air from the freezer. I think it's called the diffuser (?) that's in the top left of the fridge that draws the air from the freezer. Is it possible that it just got ice in it and is frozen? Any suggestions what else might be the problem? May wind up calling a technician as I don't have appliance repair skills, or lots of time, to work on it. But if there's something simple I can try first...

I'm no expert but it does sound like the vent between the freezer and fridge is blocked. It's quite possible that it's blocked with ice (I've seen big glaciers build up in side-by-sides and cause problems), if you can store your food somewhere else I'd say it's worth a shot to thaw the fridge before calling a technician.

We had this happen to our garage fridge.

Once we pushed a large food box into the area that stopped the fan blades. When we cleared it and allowed the fan to spin, all was good.

In reply to Klayfish: I am no expert either. +1 on an ice blockage, you can either defrost the fridge or try and melt the ice in the diffuser area with a blow dryer or heat gun. Some fridges have a fan to move the air that could have failed.
