Anyone had unusually good luck with anything?
One time I got an RC hovercraft for $20 and got it fixed up cheap, loads of fun. Another time I barely avoided dropping the back end of my Sammy into a drainage tunnel I couldn't see. Other than that, no, never
I've had good luck with Amazon's warehouse deals. Those are either refurbed or repackaged merchandise.
I'm a big fan of buying refurbs. Most come with the same or better warranties and as it was explained to me, when things come off a production line maybe 1 in 10 or 1 in 100 go through QC, but 100% of refurbs go through QC so you often get a better product.
We have bought "refurbished" Macs. In fact, my iPad was a refurb purchased through Apple. They always have that new-computer smell.

That's how I got a killer deal on Bosch plug wires for my 911. Seriously. They looked brand-new. If anything, the box had a little shelf wear on it.
I got a no box video card from new egg that was 1/6 the original price. No packaging at all. Just the card in an esd bag. Worked fine for 5 years and counting.
Where can I find good deals on refurb car stereo equipment? I've checked the Crutchfield outlet before but what else is there.
+1 on Apple refurbs. Most of the time they're actually brand new computers that were just overages from bulk orders that con no longer be sold as new for whatever reason. The have the same warranty as a new Mac, so there's really no catch.

I am not sure if the stereo prices are good or not.
In the past, I have bought a number of phones from here with great success and great value. Recently, I notice their phone prices have risen substantially.

Heck, I almost forgot. I got this laptop from the Dell Outlet, refurbished about 2-1/2 years ago. Had pretty awesome stats back then, still does more than I need and it was about $300 cheaper than the same model/specs new.
Dell's free 1 year warranty even on the refurbished laptop sent me a new DVD burner with pre-paid postage to send the bad one back when I told them the one in my laptop quit working. Handled all in about a 15 minute chat session via their online support chat.
Dell refurb laptop from the Dell outlet, and My favorite a Breville espresso machine from what was buy.com that is going in ten years of daily use (more than paid for itself). No problems with either.

www.woofersetc.com. I have ordered several times from them. They have refurb and closeout stuff for cheap.
My experience with factory refurbed objects, is that they are usually better than "new" as the QA has most likely been check a little more thoroughly.
It is has actually been a preference to buy refurbed for that reason. The warranties are usually the same as well.
One of my neighbors bought a refurbed Echco chain saw and it has worked just fine. I borrowed it a couple of times and had no problems. I've been looking for the same deal, but no luck so far.
So far I'm at 50/50 with toshiba refurbished laptops. First one had a cooling system failure after 2 day, second one was good for over 2 years.
Otherwise I haven't found any deals that much better over new to be worth it.
I bought a refurb Brother Multifunction machine (printer, copier, fax) which has been 100% trouble-free for the past five years. Saved a good amount over new, and it was packaged like new and looked like new. With a good warranty, that I haven't had to use. I'll buy refurb again, especially when it comes to electronics/computer stuff.
I've got a refurb Macbook... seems perfect (have had it for 2 years with no problems). I also have a refurb Panasonic bluray player that has worked perfectly for 4(?) years. It even plays discs that are reported to be problems for most players.
+eleventybajillion on refurb Apple products. I've extensively purchased refurb, and have never had an issue (iPods, AirPorts, Apple TVs, displays, etc.)
