Do these exist yet?
I was looking at the new Escapod tear drop trailer today, and it mentioned a built in sound system and some other small powered stuff.
While adding weight in the form of batteries might not help a lightweight trailer, I thought it would be a good way to keep the batteries charged up for a longer stay of camping.
Then there's the possibility of combining the trailer regen braking system with say an ev tow vehicles regen brakes, could help to extend the range of the EV, or minimize the extra energy consumption of towing.
I did a little googling and saw some companies doing this with semi truck trailers, just curious if anyone had made it to the consumer market yet.
I haven't heard of it, but I have given your problem some thought regarding my cargo trailer I pull behind my bike. I want to put a small battery on it to run an inverter so I have power while camping. My 2 ideas are:
- Put a solar panel on it, like 15 watts worth and a little charge controller.
- Tie in to the tail light circuit and put a charge controller in.
Or maybe both the solar panel and the tail light circuit. Note that the tail light is on whenever the bike is running anyway.
The trailer will probably be charging off the car's alternator anyway when you're driving.
Not unless it is connected.
I once had a trailer brake with a battery. The battery was charged when the tail lights were on.
seems like it would add way too much complexity to the system. Most trailers have nice flatish roofs and pretty dirty aerodynamics anyway, just add more solar. You could add a wind mill while camping, but don't bolt it to the trailer, they make a LOT of noise
