Junior high, the 1990s. Jesse brings in a folded sheet of paper and shares it around our group of friends.
We find our way to the quarter copy machine in the library.
I know this will be hotcakes and think about watermarking it some fun way. But before pressing COPY I wisely decide to keep my prints off the thing.

Later the next day it is EVERYWHERE in the school and being confiscated by the minute. I think only like ten of us actually knew where it came from.

The title on our printout was "How to Kill a Missouri Eel"

You may find it online entitled "How to kill an eel" or "little johnny and the eel." I'll not be reprinting it here.

I read somewhere this illustration from 1921 might actually be the worlds first recorded meme. And honestly, its still so relatable. If anyone finds one older please share.

Is This 1920s Cartoon the World's First Meme?

That one reminds me of a stage presentation of Aristophanes' Lysistrata that I happened to see on the campus of VCU circa 1990.  It was pretty obvious that the wardrobe folks had some fun with it.
