Saturday we rented a truck to bring grandsons stuff back to our house. (Long story, not relevant here). Made reservations with a Penske outlet in Port St. Lucie FL, about 110 miles away. GMC with a 16' box. Quoted 97.00 including tax for a one way rental. Then the miracles started. Got to the outlet, the truck was there, ready, and really nice! Quoted price was exactly what we had to pay! Loaded up, drove back to Ft. Lauderdale, very pleasant drive. Only problem was that I tried to keep the speed to 62-65mph, truck wanted 70 or better. Gassed it up this morning to get ready to turn in, got 10mpg! Turn it in, no problems, polite and friendly people. Comparing this experience to what I have gone through with U-Haul in the past, amazing difference. It's kind of sad that delivering on a deal is extraordinary, but that is reality. Kudos to Penske.

I only rent from Penske now. If you have AAA you also get a discount and they seem happy to give it to you.

Uhaul is a joke, no diesel trucks, they always seem to find a reason to charge more, and there is always something wrong with the truck.

I had to help my brother-in-law move back from college and he reserved a 14ft truck and when we got there they only had a 16ft E350, but told us that they weren't going charge us more. Ok, cool, but it wasn't until I got to the gas station that I noticed the TRITON V10 badge on the front fender. Ugh.

The speed limit on the interstate was 65 and I wouldn't go above 60 because I could physically watch the fuel gauge drop. I think I got somewhere between 5 and 8 mpg.

Never again.

After renting from Penske about 10 times for FSAE stuff in college they have done well by me. We have had issues were with the liftgates, so make sure it works well before leaving if you need to use it.

Only other issue has been a faulty fuel gauge that left us dry on the highway. Don't run anywhere near 1/4 tank in one of these things. Penske was good about it and had someone out there and us back on the road within an hour.

Dealing with them has always been easy and possitive and they kept our team moving all over the country when needed.

Penske is the way to go. One of their trucks lunched a wheel bearing while we were driving the Mini Baja car to race. They sent a tow truck that towed the truck, with gear in it 100 miles to the race site and then allowed us to unload. Later that day another truck showed up towing another Penske for us to drive back home.

Great service.

I wonder how much of Roger is in the service race cars get.

Glad to hear the good reviews. Uhaul is the devil, hopefully Penske will crush them.

U-Haul is always going to be cheaper, so the Wally World clientele will keep them going. If you are in the minority that expects value for money spent, you will keep Penske going.

U Haul really suck, few years ago, called got a quote, gave them the tow vehicle details, drove 200 miles to pick up the trailer then intended to go pick up a car.

When I get there I am made to wait for about 30 minutes, then they can't find the booking, I gave them the name of the person and it's the guy I am talking to. He goes and checks again and lo and behold he finds the booking.

He comes out to check the tow vehicle, looks it over and spots the factory installed Reece Tow Hitch and decides it is too small. I advise him it is a Class IV and he double checks and agrees.

He then goes back to his computer and tells me the tow vehicle is too small, a short wheelbase Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9 and factory tow kit, (to tow a 1st gen RX7 mind you), I advise him he, himself told me the vehicle was adequate the day earlier, he tells me no the computer says it is too small and he cannot do anything about it.

I end up up leaving, pissed and they knew it, calling the guy with the car who lets me use his friends dolly so I dont have to do the trip again.

I will never use U Haul again, but I will piss on their parade at every opportunity

steve i had similar experience. i needed to tow a lumina with my long bed 1/2 ton chevy with class 5 hitch and tow package. plenty of truck for the job. they told me the lumina and dolly weight said my truck needed to weigh 200# more to be able to rent to me, even though there were a couple 225# guys driving and riding shotgun on the trip.

i called another uhaul and told them i was going to be towing a kia sephia and they let me have one.

shortly thereafter i bought my own trailer.

i used budget for my last move and was pleasantly suprised to find that everything worked, no crazy noises while driving, radio and a/c worked great, etc.

compared to the last time i used uhaul to bring some stuff back from dallas to houston, and my initial releif that we had drawn a newer chevy van truck turned to irritation for the entire 5 hour drive after realizing that the darn thing didn't have cruise control. that made for a helluva boring long drive

Last summer I used a grossly overloaded Penske 16' to move up here to Omahammer. Worked like a champ!

U-Haul is still coasting on the reputation they had during the 1950s-70s.

Penske FTW.
