Yesterday, I caught a small frog in my toilet. For the second time in less than a week. This is getting a bit weird.
Once could be just some weirdness, but twice - and they seem to be the same sort of frog if not the same individual - is more of a pattern, and makes me figure I need to do something to keep it from getting back in. Other than making sure my kids know we don't put frogs in the toilet, any ideas how these guys are getting in and how to keep them out? We haven't seen bugs or other critters getting in the house.

Do you have a tree hanging over your house by the toiler in question? There probably is a vent stack in the wall behind the toilet and any little tree frogs could get stuck in it and pop up through the trap. Or you have a septic system with some needed maintenance.
Sonofabitch.....I have had the exact same thing happen! One was in the toilet. The other I put in there and tried to flush him. He was so determined to not go down the hole, I spared him. But where are they coming from. BTW these are tree frogs.
How do they get in your toilet? I don't know, how do most things get in your toilet? Sounds like a few of you guys have a case of the bumfrogs.
Fecal Frogs are an increasingly common problem in the US. Watch your diet, the eggs are ingested when eating raw lettuce and other vegetables and they mature within the warmth of your intestines. Eating more meat and drinking alcohol will help prevent them.
Animals and patterns... The squirrels around my house are determined that if there's an M50 or M52 BMW engine present when the walnuts fall, a walnut must be placed directly behind the oil filter housing. I can only imagine their consternation when it's not there in spring.
Armageddon! Repent all you sinners!

Not on septic, but the vent might be a possibility. Nearest tree overhanging is on the other side of the house though.

At least it's not snakes.
put a peice of screen over the vent stack and see if they return.

The sewer system is open ended in numerous ways. There is plenty of air in the pipes for animals to survive. They are only water filled in the short lengths that are water traps.
And in many older community systems, there are still significant crossovers between the sewage system and the storm drainage system. In other words, the open storm inlets can crossover to the sewer system.
The permanent fix may be to install a sewage check valve.,
In reply to SVreX :
or learn to live with the occasional frog. just check first before sitting

You tried to flush a tree frog???
Could be worse.. a couple years ago I woke up to take a pee and found a brown bat swimming laps in my toilet.
yes...I took pics (of the bat) to make sure I was delusional in my sleep-deprived state.

At the time I was stark necked getting into the shower and that seemed like the logical thing to do. The little bugger swam so well, I pulled him out and passed to my son, who carried him outside. The next one was the one already in the toilet. I didn't even try to flush him.
If you heard all the tree frogs at our place in the evenings, you would know there is no shortage of them.
