Anyone care to start a thread to this effect? If I do it, it will be "on the radar" and therefore locked by page 3.

How would you like to see it titled?

Just a fair point: Megadaves albums went downhill after he turned into a born again.

The drop in sales could also be due to the fact that everything after Rust in Peace sucked ass.

Wasn't Dave Mustaine kinda cool at one time? Or was I just really young. He was born again? Man, way to turn into a cliche, Dave. Just wow. The things I missed when MTV became unwatchable.

(edit) I just watched a couple of videos. I was just really young.

And the polite way of saying that is: "his albums went downhill after he became a born again."

Besides, I'd say he went crap after Countdown to Extinction or maybe Youthanasia if I was feeling generous. Anyways, Endgame was alright, and Thirteen is pretty good I guess.

I'd rather know who Tom Arya or Scott Ian were backing anyway.

Dave Mustaine really shocked me with this.. i've always gotten more of a Libertarian vibe out of his more political songs. i think he wants to be a Ron Paul guy, but doesn't want to admit he's a Ron Paul guy.

but it does bring up the possibility of an epic Hook In Mouth/Liar/Peace Sells medley at the inauguration ball if Santorum did somehow manage to get nominated and then get elected...

I thought he didn't become born again until MUCH later than Rust In Peace, however, I'd agree with you that Countdown is pretty good and Youthanasia is OK.

However, Slayer's last album was absolutely terrible.

Wondering where I was? (Really Catholic guy here...)

Anyway, what I think Santorum is arguing for is not a theocracy by any means. If you notice what's been going on recently, you'd see that the Catholic Church is definitely for freedom of religion. (Start a new thread on the HHS mandate... I've been through that argument 4-500 times.) What he is arguing for is what is called in philosophy "natural law" or "natural moral law". That is law based upon observation of humanity and how he lives in relation to fellow man and applying coherent logic.

He brings up contraception because lots of people don't know or ignore the side effects of the pill, and only concentrate on "if you take this pill, you can have sex whenever you like and not get pregnant!" It's got health, psychological and environmental side effects, not to mention radical cultural effects.

I would say that what's impressive about both Paul and Santorum is that they say, "This is what I believe" and they act accordingly. (I'm on the fence as to which I prefer.) I can't say the same about Obama.

The born again was fairly recent as far as I know.

Hate Worldwide was one of Slayers worst albums, hands down.

On the plus side, Anthrax's new one is damn good.

And yes, I am trying to get this thread turned to metal instead of a frothy mix of lube and fecal matter. To help, I will mention that Venom(mentioned in the op) has a new album out, and it's great. Venom - Punks not dead

i remember reading about Dave Mustaine gettign all reborn and religious in Hit Parader, Metal Edge, and Rip magazines right when Rust in Peace was coming out.. so 1990 or so... but i think he's been "unborn" and "reborn" a few times since then..

well, yeah- cutting taxes while not also cutting spending will lead to bigger deficits.

Yay, no.

Just look at Federal Income tax from the capital gains every time it's been raised, then lowered since the 60s.

To keep from running a defecit at current spending levels would mean something like all income above $200k gets taken (if you make $10 million, you still get $200k) and that still wouldn't pay for it.

People need to accept the spending is WAY out of control.

What I see on that plot from the "Center for American Progress" is that we could eliminate all of the "Tax Breaks for the Rich" and still run a $300 Billion annual deficit.

And we have a tax income problem? Yeah, right.
