Starting to plan my trip to Europe and I found this:
Roundtrip Miami Paris:
$1085 with Tap Portugal - Connects in Lisbon
$1536 with Air France - Direct
Roundtrip Miami Lisbon
$1108 with Tap Portugal - Direct
$1125 with Air France - Connects in Paris
Basically either airline we choose, it is cheaper to take the flight that goes to the city we don't want to go to, and just miss the connecting flight.
Check for flights to Europe out of New York, D.C., and Atlanta. Prices vary greatly depending upon which US airport you fly out of and which European airport you fly into. The major European airports are London, Paris, Rome, and Madrid. D.C. has a killer specials last time I checked of $550 rountrip to Istanbul, Turkey.
Check out www.hipmunk.com - they may have some better deals.
I flew KLM once and they were fantastic. Also: Free Heineken!

This will be my first year flying as a normal passenger. Up until 26 I was able to fly KLM for 10% of cost because my Mom worked for AirFrance. I used to fly Miami-Paris-Nantes round trip for $300. Paying full fair stinks!
Also: Free vodka/rum/anything!

How are you going to get back? You can't start in the middle leg?
I'm pretty sure that if you miss the connecting flight and don't reschedule the rest of the ticket is null
Well actually the the game plan is to either fly to Lisbon and then drive/train to my family's place in France and then fly France home or fly to France and then after visiting the family drive/train to Lisbon and then go home. So it could potentially work.

Yeah, KLM is great. Food is terrific, and they give you those little collectible porcelain houses full of liqueur.
Seriously, check Lufthansa. The prices are often only $5 or so more expensive than other airlines so they get pushed towards the bottom of the search engines, but the quality of the flight is SO much better. I can fly round trip to the US with Lufthansa for $1035 round trip, or $1015 with Delta. The choice is clear.
