This is the first time I've seen a video of the full Pike's Peak road. I see there are a couple of guard rails now as well as more pavement. Still though, a very impressive run.

I'm really glad he managed it before it was fully paved. You can see that with part tarmac, part dirt you really have to run a compromised set up. He was obviously running more of a tarmac set up as he was much slower on the dirt corners. That's not to say making part of it tarmac makes it easier, the tarmac sections seem to end up with a narrower road, so for any given corner the effective radius of that corner will be tighter than when it was dirt. I do think that once it's all paved it will be faster still, but in the current and recent past, part paved, part dirt I think it was just as much, if not more of a challenge than when it was all dirt.

BTW, I loved the brief article that GRM did last year comparing the top three cars. I wish they would do a more in-depth piece covering the three approaches, with some body off shots, specs and some dimensions.

Guardrails and pavement now? Dang, where' the fun?!

Years ago I had a blast running up it on my sea level tuned motorcycle, playing with that very non-stock water truck.
