Sad. They hail from this area. I can't help but wonder what the cause of death will turn out to be.

Damn. When I saw the thread title I knew who'd posted it. Thanks Corey. Until about 7th grade I always assumed they were a "joke" band. Then I heard the opening riff of "Salamanizer" and new that while they were funny as hell, they were no berkeleying joke. Here's to a truly influential, talented, underappreciated guitarist. (Sucks down a big gulp of v&t.)

I think it goes without saying this is nsfw:

I was never into GWAR, but I have HUGE respect for their ability to remain a viable band for so long. It's a great thing when a band can flourish on the underground and call all of their own shots.

The dedication required to tour together for so long is amazing. What's more amazing is their willingness to do so in big, sweaty, uncomfortable costumes.

Think of it this way. You get to thrash all night every night, look like a total goon, spray gore and god knows what else all over your audience, and get paid for it. I'd do that in a second.

they started off as a joke band.. a bunch of art school rockers that were just looking to have fun.. they even admit that they didn't know how to play their instruments worth a crap- but that was a part of what made them so cool..

i wonder if they'll have a GWAR funeral for this guy? i can only think that would be all kinds of awesome and that he'd probably want it..

Yeah. If you're gonna come with "facts", just realize there are some serious BoHabs here.

This deli tray is UNACCEPTABLE!

Sad day for metal.

just going by what they said in interviews back in the late 80's/early 90's when they first started to get noticed. i guess they could have been pulling Ricky Rachtman's leg when they were on Headbanger's Ball, but honestly their first few albums rather sucked musically.. but that's ok- because it's freakin GWAR.

They were at a haunted house here this Halloween.

I remember thinking "Holy crap, GWAR is still around? Awesome!" Didn't go.

I really never paid much serious attention due to the novelty get-ups. Like Kiss, all show, no go. Like "The Wiggles" of metal. Due to the commentary from poop and jg, I suppose I'll have to give them some air time while I work today.

RIP.

Indeed a sad day for metal. Another talented underrated metal head lost. RIP \m/

For those that have never seen Gwar you owe it to yourselves to catch them at least once, even if that means from the back of the room. They are truly one of the most entertaining live acts these days.

Yep. I wouldn't consider myself a fan, but I saw them back in the mid 90's at a dive club in Trenton, NJ. It was a fun show. To this day, I still regularly quote one of the jokes:

"How do you hide money from a hippy?"

"You put it under the soap!"

RIP.
