He'd been in hospital a lot recently, but the last I saw was home and doing well. I was really pulling for him to make it to 100.
I greatly admire the Queen. I am thinking of her, and all of the family today.
Many of his views were... shall we say.... out of date? But, considering his position, his candor was always kind of fun. An interesting dude, to be sure.
I'd be worried about Liz because spouses often don't live long at that age after one dies. But I'm pretty sure she's immortal.
Philip was kind of the antithesis of Megan / Harry. All duty and sacrifice (of what might have otherwise been his life) to the roll in the monarchy.
I think Megan has a huge out on this one. I believe she is pregnant and can claim that as a reason not to go to the funeral. I would really expect Harry to go. I suspect the crown will invite them, expecting Megan will not come.
I can't imagine what an S show it would be if Megan showed up....

Remember, Her Majesty's mother lived to be a 101 year old widow. although her husband died at a much younger age.
I found out today a friend of mine (Brit expat) actually met Prince Philip once when he got an award for some program the Prince started. While my friend loathes the monarchy and all it represents, he had nothing but nice things to say about Prince Philip. Said he was very likable and had a firm handshake.
We have a picture of my Dad shooting the breeze with the prince in 1957 at Jamestown's 350th celebration. The Queen was busy doing "stately" things, and he was bored. My Dad, always being a colorful character, was a welcome distraction.
In the early 90's the Queen of Denmark was over for a event at UVA, and my dad (Both his parents were from Denmark.) was there; ended up chatting with her husband, kinda the same way.
Apparently he chose, himself, to always walk one pace behind Elizabeth in public, but behind closed doors, he was the head of the family. His charitable work was a huge part of his life.
Apparently a good man, whose ideas of duty, honor and culture have been left behind.
I figured that something was up a few nights ago when the Queen updated her Facebook relationship status to "It's Complicated".

Our sun is fading. Queen Elizabeth puts down her tea. Claps twice. Chuckles to herself. The sun goes out. She closes her eyes. Duty fulfilled.
