the history channel said:
At 17, a young factory worker named Geraldine Doyle unwittingly inspired J. Howard Miller’s iconic “We Can Do It!” poster, an image that later became a powerful symbol of American women’s contributions during World War II and of female empowerment. More than four decades would go by before she learned that she had become the face of Rosie the Riveter. Doyle died on December 26 in Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 86.

Oh STDs have been around since at least the Roman days. I've not checked it out, but I've read that syphillis came from getting it on with sheep.
They even had condoms then, they were made from sausage casing or intestines.

I wasn't born until the 1960s, so this comment is opinion and not old-age lamenting, but I think women of that era were far more attractive than the skanky style we have today. This gal is gorgeous, and she probably wasn't terrified of eating a sandwich. She's got the Ingrid Bergman thing going on.

Are you trying to say she was "Riveting"?
Sorry. I couldn't help it.

Agreed 10000%. I'd rather look at her than the "hot" women of today anyways, and I wasn't born til 79.

Ever seen pics of machinists in the early 1900's? They were wearing suits and ties ferchryssakes...imagine your tie getting caught in a running lathe? Talk about taking personal responsibility! Your life was on the line!

Wow. All those years I lived in Lansing and no one knew that "Rosie" was in our midst.

I made a giant Grimace shaped device for a gay friend of mine..
It was 6061 t6.. Aircraft grade.
aaand there we go off the deep end
Grimace was my favorite. It's a shame he didn't get more airtime. You hardly ever see him now.

Safety glasses came later, but I believe it was Veronica lake, a blond pin-up girl who first made it stylish to wear your hair pulled back. This was to encourage young ladies working in factories while the men were away to keep it out of spinning drill chucks etc.
