A few more magazines got the AXE on Friday ,

Surfer , Bike, Powder and Snowboarder magazines were closed by  American Media  a giant corporation—whose flagship was until recently the National Enquire.

time to pull out the "The Endless Summer " video

The news has been floating around my cycling sites today.  A bummer for sure. Bike put out some good content. Print media is a hard road.

I haven't paddled a board in more than 10 years, maybe longer. No connection to surfing anymore other than watching video clips. Sorry to see this.

Another piece of my youth, gone.

Still have my long boards, though.

I've never surfed, and considering I can't swim at all it would probably be a really really bad idea to try it, but I grew up on cheesy 80's surf movies & surfpunk, so this somehow hits kinda close to home.

There's still space out there for enthusiast magazines that are well written, and are supported by very directed ads for the readers.

Like GRM.

If there's a market, someone will pick it up.  Just be some small family run thing.

The problem was real surfers didn't need a magazine to tell them surfing was cool.

Wannabes got scared off by the sharks.
