I rode my motorcycle to work this morning as I usually do. Its raining but no problem, rinse the bike off at work and things go well. Except today...

a few miles from work they are grinding the street to lay down new road surfaces. I cross through the area not even thinking anything of it. I have ridden through construction areas before. I slow way down cause I figure pebbles might get kicked up and I did not want extra nicks or slinging for the guy behind me. As I turn off that road I smell the worst burning smell coming from my bike. When you smell burning stuff on a motorcycle I find it best to find out whats going on quick. Turns out the grindings had gotten kicked up and had MELTED to me exhaust headers all the way back to the start of the Yoshimura can. I got to work and hosed it off but that was a no go.

So now I have black goo pipes.

Do I have any recourse against the construction company? If so whats my next step? Who do I call or contact? What am I to do.

Rough start today.

That sucks, but I dunno. It seems around here that I cannot find a route to wherever it is that I am going that is not berkeleyed up with construction. Many of the sites are poorly marked or just outright dangerous for motorists.

In reply to CarKid1989:

Even if burned on, the goo is still petroleum based and you should be able to get it off with some solvents and scrubbing.

I'm not sure there's anything you can do as far as trying to place blame.

Contact the state highway. They frequently have a special solvent they use for cleaning paint spattered cars, and for tar as I recall.
