I take that to mean that Han knows a short cut.
I've seen a decent explanation for it: the Falcon's speed allows it to cut in closer to the nlack holes in that area, which allows him to take a straighter path thru that part of space. Also, it could have just been a lie meant to impress Steve Obi Wan Ben Larry Kenobi, which is why you see Obi Wan give that "whatever" look when he says it.

So Han would make a good autocross guy. Would the Falcon be like D Prepared?

Since it's technically a freighter, I figure the Falcon is more of a Dakar Rally truck. She dances pretty good for a big girl.

Finally saw Rogue One last night. As a SW geek, I loved it, but I can see how people who are not SW geeks would find the first 45 minutes to be a muddled mess.

Let's talk about kyber crystals. We learned in the Clone Wars series that every lightsaber is powered by a kyber crystal, and each Jedi Padawan must find his/her own kyber crystal in the caves of a snow planet (Ilum?). So the Death Star's planet destroying laser is also powered by kyber crystals? And they're available in other places besides Ilum?

Jyn Urso (aka "the girl") was wearing a kyber crystal necklace. Is that how Blind Chinese Guy found her? Was BCG a Force-sensitive who would have been a Jedi, if there had been anyone left to teach him the Jedi arts? And his buddy with the Tommy gun was NOT Force Sensitive? And they were both members of this Guardians of the Whills group, which guarded the Jedi temples but were not themselves Jedi?

Did anybody read "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" back in the day? If so - remember how kyber crystals could impart a small amount of Force-sensitivity to a non-Force-sensitive person? Can they still do that?

Disclaimer: I am married with a kid and a full-time job and haven't lived in my parents' basement since 1994, and yet I have still managed to reach this level of SW geekery.

That's right.

Didn't even notice the necklace but that's a good theory.

For me, the only problem was remembering the character's names. In Force awakens, I picked up Po, Fin ,and Rey's names quickly. I couldn't tell you the names of any of the new characters in Rouge One.

I had no trouble with any of them except laser machine gun guy. I don't think his name was ever mentioned (looking it up, it's Blaze Malbus apparently).

Also Wikipedia's "Cast" section for Rogue One points out that Churrut Imwe is a Zatoichi knockoff, haha

Why do you need to remember names, they all die.

Kyber crystals are partially aware. Yes, they choose their users and call to them. They also explain that is why Sith lightsabers glow red. They "force" the crystals to their will which makes them "bleed".

Read Catalyst, the prequel novel to Rogue 1, it explains a LOT about the crystals and how the Deathstar superlaser works without getting too muddled in fake science and mysticism

Totally agree! This was a great movie. More of a war movie like someone said, but not as bad as the last one.

I have to say, my favourite part of the space battle scene was where the "hammerhead" corvette pushed the disabled star destroyer into the other one. Physics at work!

Saw it last night. Enjoyed it, mostly because of new characters and new places, expanding the lore, if you will.

K2SO was hilarious and I was sad to see him go. He combined 3P0's overly analytical side without being quite so awkward in his movements. He'll definitely get some more stories about him, I'm sure.

I didn't like some of the stupid plot devices like the cable and the claw game. They could have easily filled that time with other worthwhile dialogue or drama.

Tarkin was cool. Did Krennic get younger? He looked older at the beginning when Jyn was younger than later in the movie.

Krennic was living a subsistence life as a farmer when we first saw him. Later, he was all fattened up as an Empire asset. Maybe that was it.

You are thinking of Galen. Krennic was always an Engineer -first with the Republic and then later with the Empire. Galen, Jyn's Father, you first meet as a farmer when they were hiding from Krennic and the Empire.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but does " Rogue one" start where " The force reawakens" left off with out FA characters (haven't seen RO yet)? The trailers had me believing this was a prequel to the original prequel. I'm so confused.

I'm impressed by the sales numbers for this movie, I figured TFA would be awesome but figured this for 60% at best; wow was I wrong!

No, it leads up to the moment that Star Wars begins. It's a prequel to the original (a new hope). The entire story is how the rebels came to know the weakness of the Death Star

Movie timeline is:

1-3(sucktacular anakin/jarjar/darth balls prequel saga)

Rogue One

4-6(OG saga, new hope/empire strikes back/return of the jedi)

The Force Awakens

I don't count any of the animated stuff

I'm not.. TFA was just a different way to tell New Hope. This is honestly all new material with ties to the two animated series.

Saw Gerrera came from The Clone Wars and there were several shots of The Ghost in both Yavin 4's hanger and in the fleet battle. For those that watch "Star Wars Rebels" Chopper was also in HQ at Yavin 4 and they paged "General Syndulla" there too.

it's too bad that you don't count the animated stuff, because they are important.

the 7 main movies up to this point tell the story of the Skywalker family and their closest associates and their role in everything, but the animated stuff really gets into the nuts and bolts of how the whole Star Wars universe operates. the Clone Wars series fills in the space between episodes 2 and 3, Rebels fits in between 3 and 4 almost right alongside where Rogue One fits in.

i meant don't count as in i've not seen them, i really don't have time to sit down and watch a couple animated series. i know they fill in timelines, but i'm not familiar enough to go using them as a reference. i'm guessing i got way more pleasure out of catching up on Archer than i would have using that time to watch the Clone Wars

I'm with patgizz. I watch the movies and go no deeper. Life's too short. Plus, the prequels discouraged me from anything that involved clones or anything else that was in those movies.

Rogue One is the first part of Star Wars (the movie, not the universe). They're basically a two-part movie now.

One thing I'm interested to see is the transition of "Rebels" to "Rogue One". We were always kinda taught that by the time Ben Kenobi went into hiding that the Jedi are no-more, and yet Ezra and Kannan continue on, and increasingly encounter Vader. We also know that Ashoka Tano still lives into the third series of Rebels.

Archer is just a bunch of dysfunctional coworkers yelling at each other, Clone Wars and Rebels shows the fall of a Republic and the fight to restore it..

But to each their own.

the "hammerhead" corvette also comes from Rebels. The first season of the series is pretty childish, it was on Disney kids after all, but it matured very quickly from there. I do suggest watching Clone Wars, they are done in a "serial" style and each one is pretty much a self contained story onto itself. It's also interesting to watch Anakin turning to the dark side. You can tell even there that the other Jedi, including Obi Wan, do not really trust him 100%

BTW.. the "ghost" is the bottom left ship in that pic. It's a heavily armed freighter a bit larger than the falcon. Not as fast or maneuverable, but heavily armed with it's own external shuttle
