We just got back from watching roller derby. It's 10 bucks well spent, but honestly have little idea as to what was going on.

Saratoga Auto Museum hosted a beer - cars night. You get 24 local microbrews, check out some 50s Vettes and the hostesses were the local Roller Girls.
Nice cars but dayum! I'm 5'11" 200 lbs. and when the blue eyed sweetie rolled up to me with a burger, I was intimidated [aroused].
Big girls, cute, a good time. One of their stickers will adorn the Challenger.
Please, given the opportunity go to a Roller Girl event. If you're in the neighborhood call me, best entertainment for the $$$.
Dan
I love most of their "names". My wife has an ex employee that skates for the team in Jacksonville. They invite fans to go out and party with them at a local bar after the matches!
I went tonight for the first time. Flat track, mind boggling scoring and penalty system. Totally clueless but completely entertained for $10.00. Event the snacks were reasonably priced versus the movies.
Went to an event last winter and had a great time. I am now a fan of the Detroit Pistolwhippers! If I ever get around to building a proper racecar of domestic type, it will have a Detroit Derby Girls sticker on it. In the mean time there's one on my toolbox.
I love tough girls, but didn't understand Roller Derby until a buddy of mine wanted to go for his batchelor party. He told me that to score points, an individual team member had to actually lap members of the other team! Gearhead brain kicks in..HOLY E36 M3! THIS IS RACING! Well, full-contact racing, but full-contact racing with Tough Girls(tm)!

EDIT: Dang, mtn..was gonna post up a link to the song, but can't find much of one.
I've never been, but do have an old good friend who is a "jammer". It always seems like it will be a whole lot hotter than it is.

Well, you would THINK it would score some kind of points...
(I am intrigued by this...)

The Dirty South Rollergirls of Atlanta won the second annual Rocket City Rumble yesterday here in Huntsville AL. Teams from Dallas, Knoxville, Memphis, Tampa and Huntsville played. Two of the bouts in the touney came down to the last jam.
My wife skates for the Dixie Derby Girls - that makes me a derby widow a lot of the time.
Hey, I was at a bout last night, too. It was my league's first.
Roller derby is essentially a race between 2 people (the jammers) with interference (the blockers). The jammers (with stars on their helmets) are the only ones who score. On the jammers' first trip through the pack, she is not competing for points, but for the title of 'lead jammer' this gives her the advantage of being able to call off the jam rather than have to skate the entire 2 minutes and risk the other team scoring.
Once the jammer gets through the pack for the first time, she comes around again to score. She gets one point for each member of the opposing team she passes on each lap.
There is your roller derby lesson for the day from WReXie Khan, #EJ25, skater with the Peoria Push Derby Dames :)
It must have been national derby bout night last night. I covered the local league's first big inter-league bout, packed stands and plenty of action. It's still somewhat new to the area (they were a single traveling team for the last year) and they did a good job explaining the rules before the event and had derby girls around in the stands to answer fan questions. Great community event.

My team kicked your team's ass last week. (I'm friends with one of the Nashville Roller Girls.)

Pretty damn close! lol! Fun once you know the rules. One of our local teams, The Denver Roller Girls, is ranked 3rd in the nation. I have had the oppertunity to photograph matches this year. http://www.pbase.com/steve_nelson

Again, please accept my apologies. I'm not really an internet stalker, I just like tough girls.
