I understand that you have to have a unique name to join a roller derby league. Colleagues at work are joining one, and they are currently looking for such names. "Jugs Mackenzie" and "Dixie Normous" are two favourites so far.

I've been involved as unofficial recruiter for the (classy)Tallahassee RollerGirls Capital Punishment for a while now. We have some heavy hitters like the Great Wall of Gina and my personal friend Fat Ass Bitch. Check em out at www.tallyrg.com/ ... Derby to me is like road racing... or auto-x but cones that fight back. Its good bumper to bumper, Action (Pure Action)!
I met some of the Minnesota Rollergirls at the Afton Hill Climb last spring.... they were great. Best flag girls ever, and any one of 'em would kick my ass.

You wouldn't think that Dixie Normous would be able to pass the physical.

hahaha, EG33 was discussed, can't remember why I decided against it in the end, though. Unfortunately for the name, though, they take forever to get approved through the registry (lots of rules and no duplicates allowed, ever) I think the league secretary may smack me if I try to change it. I am still waiting for 'official' approval, and if I don't get it, I will try WReXie Alcyone next :)
BTW, talks of obtaining your SVX have not ceased...
We went to roller derby again this past Saturday--our local team has bouts once per month. Turns out that last month was more of an in-house contest, as it was their A team vs. their B team since the other team canceled at the last minute. This time it was more serious--more hits, more action and a bit more anger. (Well, really it was just one girl on the other team who seemed to have an attitude, but they got pounded, anyway.) Plus the music was better--nice mix of Ramones, Misfits, etc.
And here, I even did a haiku blog about it: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/staff/David/roller-girl/
I still skate. (Snyder advantage Plates, Bonez RED Bearings and hyper Shaman Wheels)
Our town has two teams, the gals are at the rink a lot. It is an interesting mix of soccer moms looking for exercise and hard core (lesbian?) skater chicks.
they all wear torn black leggings/nylons/ stockings and short skirts so I am all good.
Building your skates is a lot like building a car, it is all about traction nd turning..
Bringing this one back to share this: http://www.pjstar.com/news/x1809788448/Peoria-roller-derby-team-competes-in-first-home-bout
Last Saturday was the league's very first home bout (some girls played near St Louis a few months ago), and my team, the Polka Bots, won! See that pink helmet, the only pink helmet in the league? That's me!
Just wanted to share :)
Grew up watching roller derby. If its good enough forJim Croce it's good enough for me! "Well the roller derby program said that she was built like a 'frigerator with a head, her fans called her Tuffy, but all her buddies called her Spike". Excerpt from Jim Croces Roller Derby Queen.

Damn, woman! Flat tracking?!?! No wonder they hung that sign on the good seats!
Congrats! A win is a win. (where's the "thumbs up" icon?)
