NeOhioans, if you see this car not driven by me, prepare to take evasive action... \1119151630a\\" />

Kind of weird seeing him drive away by himself. You can actually see the giant grin on his face!

Wow, you just made me get misty-eyed remembering the day my older daughter drove off on her first solo spin. I think my heart had re-started by the time I walked back inside...

Have you got him signed up for a Skip Barber Teen Safety & Survival class, yet? You're so close to Mid-Ohio, you really ought to make it happen. You could take a High Performance Driving class for yourself while there, and compare notes on the drive home! It could no-kidding save his life, and would be can't fail bonding experience.

Cool day. Been driving for 28 years now and I still remember the rush of being a new driver with all that freedom under my right foot.

Second the suggestion of Street Survival School. Nearly all new drivers think they are much better than they really are.

He's already been to Street Survival. I'm probably going to send him back again in the spring. I also really want to send my wife to something similar, possibly MidOhio since the parent can split driving time.

KyAllroad, it's day 3 and we've already run into the hazardous attitudes and confirmation bias argument-fest last night; he saw no problem with going to a friend's house at 10pm in the rain which was supposed to change to snow overnight. "But I've driven in rain or snow before and didn't crash.." and "Nobody else will be driving anyway".

On the plus side, we can press him into service running errands and karting his sister around this week for the holidy.

His learning is not over. Check out Andy Pilgrim's driving safety education foundation: http://www.theparentdrivingzone.com/#!about-the-dvd/cog3

Get him to some autocrosses next year, and some snow practice in a empty parking lot if you can. I'll bet you're already ahead of us on those thoughts though.

Since you're in NE Ohio, check out Drive Team. They have a huge facility in Cuyahoga Falls and offer a winter driving program in addition to other great programs. I'm kind of surprised the owner isn't on here...

In reply to asoduk:

Cool, never knew that existed. Maybe the wife would agree to the adult winter driving class.
For some reason she gets all upset when I pop the handbrake on her randomly in the snow. I don't get it.
