Sooo... there are a lot of trucks around here that are in awesome shape minus a soft spot on the frame, causing total lack of inspectability.

Anyone have experience welding on light duty truck frames?

Dont worry, I'm not going to do anything above my skill level. (Yet... ) I just wanted to start a discussion since I can't seem to find much good information online about this subject.

I did it on a 93 Pathfinder, to pass inspection. As commonly happens with those, they rust out behind the rear wheels. I ground it down, wire wheeled, hit it with Rustbulet, then welded in patch plates over the rust, then hit it with rustbullet again. It was pretty solid for a non structural area, and passed inspection.

What thickness steel did you use and what welding process?

To be honest, you should check out mini truck websites. If you lower ANY mini truck lower than about 3", you often need to notch the frame. Since a lot of people are trying to lay frame with bags, you will see TONS of info on welding frames.

Infamousnissan.com is the forum for Nissan Minis. I'm not sure about any others.
