Ok, Deadpool (2016) is pretty freakin great, and part of the fun was tearing up Ryan Reynolds career. As I sit here watching R.I.P.D. again, I feel the need to defend his career a bit. I mean, as a young actor trying to break out you never know what is going to be your big break. So he has been in some cringe-worthy flops, but I can't really blame any of his choices.
R.I.P.D. (2013) - Universally panned, but I actually kinda like it. I mean, it's goofy and weird and has a lot of cool special effects. Ghostbusters made it big...no reason to think this wouldn't as well. Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon...could have been a cult classic. I would have done it if I was him.
Turbo (2013) - This was fun and the kids enjoyed it. Who cares that the plot makes no sense. (A snail in an F1 race, in the US?!?!) He has kids and he has to show them something right? It's this, or the Croods.
Safe House (2012) - Could have been OK, just fell a little flat. Co-starred Denzel, always a good move.
Green Lantern (2011) - The one outlier, it sucked, hard. But with the success of other superhero movies, who wouldn't give it a shot? Sure, it was the suckiest of all superheros, but other X-Men and Avengers have gone from obscurity to billion-dollar franchises so who could say? That said, Green Lantern sucked.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - Again, the premise was solid. I loved him in the beginning as the wise-talking assassin. Even at the end, he was pretty bad-ass with all of the powers. Taking away his wise-cracking was a bad move, but admit it, you liked the movie and you watch it on the occasional Sunday afternoon.
Blade: Trinity (2004) - This was the first time I thought, yeah, this wise-cracking guy needs more screen time. "Did you check the lobby?" Classic! He was the highlight of the movie. The rest kinda sucked.
Van Wilder (2002) - The story of my college years.
Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (1998) - Yeah, that was him on that show! What ever happened to Traylor Howard?
Anyway, perhaps not Oscar-worthy performances, but understandable and generally enjoyable. Glad he finally made it to Deadpool because he seems to have found his niche.
