2 years ago I sold my 96 Miata to a hillclimb friend so he and his father could get into racing. It was a great match and they loved the car.
Sadly I heard yesterday that the new owner's house burned down, with the Miata in the basement garage. Needless to say it's all gone. Nobody was home at the time and the only things lost are material possessions.
I didn't think this image would upset me, but I was wrong.
If anybody has a line on a cheap (but still good) NA Miata please let me know. A group of us are trying to get him a replacement as a surprise.
No one was hurt (I hope) and they got two years of joy out of her. Not all cars are so lucky.

All cars die, not all cars truly live.
Wow, that's devastating.
This just happened to a family in my city; they lost everything, including both cars.
We had a (small) house fire when I was in high school. Amazing how smoke gets into everything.
Wow, sorry to hear that. I assume no one was hurt; that would have made things far worse.

When you said "Miata", "hillclimb", "father", and "racing" all in your first sentence, I thought this was going to have a much worse ending. Still sad news, but not devastating, at least.
That vise in the pic looks salvageable.
I've always said that Miata's are smoking hot …
wait … wut …. too soon ? 
If the car was going to be "parted out" than he could possibly get the insurance to cover it.

With the back story of motorsports including Auto-x, Rally-x and hillclimb, if well documented enough (photos and video) to showcase the backstory, Mazda may like to get them into an ND for future motorsports hijinx and family bonding opposed to them picking up another NA
It did all those things under my ownership. They just hillclimbed it and I have zero documentation in terms of photos of videos. He needs to focus on getting his home together again, so we're trying to get him a new toy without him knowing.
