It looks like the sales tax here in San Mateo county got voted up .5% then old Moonbeam got another .25% increase voted in so I'm looking at almost 10% sales tax and getting a little pissed off. To hell with it, looks like time to get out of the PRCa.
That's all!
This far in debt and taxes are bound to go up. We just fought off a 700% tobacco tax increase. Fingers can be pointed in all directions.
And it still doesn't fix the old drum of "We are broke." mantra.....
No but at this point California taxes people making under 50K a year more then 48 other states tax people in the 7 digits so people are not going to take much more.
My effective tax rate is above 50% here in California all told so yeah it sucks.
So what are the taxes on a new patio now?

What are we to expect with Robin Hood re-elected?
Man. You guys are just begging for the old banhammer, huh?

Seriously. Considering that was a state/local tax and had nothing to do with the presidential election.
I wasn't for the tax increase, but apparently more of us were, so that's what we get.

I don't get that. We have the same problem up here. When polled, the majority of people almost always say that they're willing to pay more tax. WTF is wrong with these people?

Patios are getting awefully expensive on property tax assesments......
I only posted this because I am wondering where the sales tax is going, we're talking almost 10% here. I feel this is going to push more money "off the grid" and unreported. I'm wondering when the federal government will be pushing a consumption tax aka VAT.
This is basically just a mini rant, and hopefully doesn't turn into a political pissing match.
So sound off, where are you and what is your sales tax?

You should have stopped right there............... before "there", actually.
You're dealing with a local issue that we (collectively) won't have to deal with until your state's fanciful fiscal policies implode and we (collectively) have to bail your a$$es out. When that happens, Margie won't be able to afford the additional land and concrete needed to cover the bodies.
Spend your time trying to educate your fellow Californians about their follies. Good luck with that.
I think Indiana is either 7 or 8%,.......no complaints about it.
Pretty much 6% around here, KY/OH/WV. TN is what almost 9%(?), but no income tax either.
Sales taxes are the worst taxes...that is all.
Combined state and local sales tax here is 6.75%.
I didn't have a problem with BenzBaron's post, honestly. He's venting about paying a lot of sales taxes, no finger pointing there.

Indiana is 7% with an extra 1% at restaurants.

Now, this may be a bad source, but there was a somewhat recent Jon Stewart show in which he pointed out that California is "in the black."
I wonder what keeps people thinking that they're trillions in debt?

What he said. I had locked this, but now's as good a day as any to ban the offenders, so instead I'll just pop some corn and watch.

6% here in MI. The only good thing about 10% is that it's easy to figure out in your head real quick. Here, I gotta to 10%, cut that in half and add a little more back. But I went to Detroit schools so I got an excuse.
And yes, please keep the politics out of this. It's over, this guy won, that guy didn't, the commercials are over.

OH sales tax depends on county. It ranges from IIRC 5% to 8%. And then some counties have extra taxes on smokes and alcohol, which is why, for instance, a pack of American Spirits is about $7 and a 6-pack of Stella is about $10.
I don't mind taxes, because government services don't run on unicorn farts and good feelings, they run on money.
