My factory radio in my Jeep has Sirius. It is the basic CD unit (RES). I am upgrading to a JVC KW-R800BT head unit. It is "Sat ready". I am all confused on what I need to get Sirius service on it. I want to use the factory Sirius antenna if I can because I really don't want to shell out more money.

There are two adapters/add ons that JVC lists. This one seems to be what I need. But there is also this one. Do I buy the first one and connect the stock antenna to it? Will it have the right connector?

So I need to connect it up in this order - head unit--->sat radio adapter---->stock Sirius antenna?

I was close to the end of the 1 year free trial I got when I bought my Jeep. They kept offering me service but I kept saying no. Then they offered $4.95/month for the next six months. I couldn't say no haha

If I had to guess, I'd say you need the first one. This is why I only buy from Crutchfield, because they tell you exactly what you need (and how to install it).

I spend 6-8 hours a day in my vehicle, and I can't imagine life without satellite radio. Terrestrial radio is so bad with it's endless commercials and repeated play lists I'd rather have no radio at all.

You actually need both.

The first one is the interface between the Sirius tuner and your headunit, translates the signal.

The second one is the actual tuner/sirius reciever, will come with the antenna you need.

Look on Ebay for both things. People sell this stuff for dirt cheap when they ditch Sirius, the headunit, or the car. I paid $21 shipped for my Kenwood interface and Sirius tuner in the MSM.

Alternatively, i have one of the standalone Sirius Sportster 5 deals i'd throw your way for pretty cheap if that interests you. I don't have the antenna, but it sounds like you're wanting to use your factory one. Should just connect via AUX cable.

Just get one of the standalone units..

First... You can get a home adapter for them and bring it inside so you don't need to pay for another subscription..

Second.. They are super cheap new; next to nothing if you buy them used... 15$ for receiver, 2 vehicle kits (base, mounting kit and antenna) and a home base station with home antenna on Kijiji..

Third.. Way easier to hack a stand alone unit than a installed radio..

Tell me more about this hacking you speak of.

Well, I did find both parts (receiver and tuner) on the eBay for less than the MSRP of the tuner. I got the receiver super cheap because the dude lost the antenna but I plan one using the OEM one.

I was confused by the whole thing because the OEM head unit has both the receiver and tuner built in. The antenna just plugs into the back.

Now I gotta find a way to stuff the steering wheel control adapter module and the sat tuner/receiver behind the dash

I will tell you more. But not tell you how to do it... If I did the solution would likely, no longer be the solution, in short order... Also it would likely get me banned from here..

Once you find out how to do it. It is surprisingly easy to do.. With a stand alone receiver that is..

Use Google.. Search your receiver.... Limit your search results... And be creative with your search terms...

Other than that you are on your own... Sorry, don't want to get banned..

Nothing to add other than I love my R800-BT

Oh wait - I'm using an external sirius starmate. I did the integral sat radio on a pioneer deck I had before and the displayed info was minimal.

That's what personal e-mails are for. Can't come on here claiming to have all this knowledge about something and not back it up. I call shenanigans.

As I said in my original post...

"I will tell you more. But not tell you how to do it... If I did the solution would likely, no longer be the solution, in short order... "

It is easy.. Spend 20 minutes looking up a solution... When you find it, don't pass it on and don't post how to do it anywhere...

In the future I will just say nothing...

But Seriously... It is so easy... Which is why everyone shouldn't know about it... If you search and find out how.. Great... Don't pass it on...

ok… sorry …. guess I don't understand how private conversation means something would "no longer be the solution, in short order"

so please ignore my suggestion (keeping in mind that lots of us don't have the same computer/google fu skills you obviously have )
