Does anybody have a source for the cable ends? And a crimping tool? I have a couple antennas that the plug end is fraying and causing a the signal to be lost. I'd rather replace the end than pull the wiring back out of the cars.
I'd also like to be able to put the antenna at the tail end of the van. It's going to need a cable longer than what comes attached to the antenna. I'd prefer cutting some wiring to the proper length and terminating the cable properly at either end before leaving a mile of coiled up wire stuffed behind a panel.
How good are you with really small coaxial cable?
Is it mini coax? There are tools for working with that, but not sure about the connectors.
Back in the day I worked plenty with regular coax. Haven't played with the mini yet, but I do have an extra antenna that the end broke off to practice with.
The googles say the connector is a SMB. Looks like there are some adapters to use regular RG-6. I guess I could wire the van's antenna up with that like an '80's car phone. Still would need a SMB connector to crimp onto the antenna's original line though.
I think you'll be better off getting a new antenna. Sure, it's a pain in the butt to rerun and hide that wire, but at least the antennas are fairly cheap.
I'm with Sky. The cheap replacement antennas usually have much longer wires. Don't mess with that small ass coax.
When I ran the antenna in the Intrepid, I ran it under the carpet. I'm not pulling the interior again. I'll mess with the tiny coax first.
You should be able to fish new cable through with the old cable.
I'd be interested in an answer to this also????
When I figure it out I'll post an update. Unless somebody here tonight has been down this road...
