While I have a Twitter account I generally open the app when something HUGE is going on. There has been nothing huge enough to move my finger recently so I have decided to start hijacking tweets and adding the hastag: #sandinyourass .

For those of you that were not conscious before the digital revolution, the "hash tag"(#) used to be called the "pound sign"...

That is very insensitive to those of us with sand in our anal cavities.

If you have nothing better to tweet about, try lying. Especially if there is no reason to lie about whatever it is you're lying about.

I get that you're messing with twitter users, but I am ignorant enough to not have any idea what this means

twitter is one bit of current technology/fad that I am proud to know absolutely nothing about, and plan to keep it that way.

Plus eleventy billion (and you can agree at #Curmudgeon). I have no desire to 'follow' anyone, it's too similar to having 1,896,725,432,907,818.5 Facebook 'friends'. Give me as many GOOD flesh and blood friends as I can count on one hand and I'm a happy guy.

+2. I play around on Facebook quite a bit, but Twitter is something I've never understood.

I read an interesting article about how FB and twitter are actually making people more comfortable with not being around people in person and just communicating via social media. I was guilty of that for the last 3 or so years.

And when did the Pound sign become a "hash tag"

Back in the 80's, we also used to call the $ - "string". No idea why, but doing it a lot in programming made it a better verbal explanation...

If $X = "ok" then $Y = "goal"

if string X equals ok then string Y equals goal sounds a lot better than if dollar sign X .... you get my drift.

What's twitter? I keep hearing it, but don't get the idea nor point.

Funny, we have these mobile phones that we can talk to anybody from anywhere, and instead we send them texts in as many formats as we can- actual texts, Mybook, via the birds, making a blogsiphere... etc. What ever happend to talking to people?

Yeah, I've never been on twitter, never will. I have a facebook account (when I was starting my business) but I only go on once a year or so. I'd rather talk to you in person, or at least on the phone. I don't need to know what color shoes you wear to the grocery store or that you kid put a buggar on the wall.
So, Mr. Brown. Tell me what the heck are you doing, and what's the consequence?

Twitter is a great resource for certain things though, once you ignore people telling you what they had for breakfast, I get my daily fix of NHL news, business news, some jokes, and some pictures of girls in yoga pants...

How can some people hate it so much?

I think the problem with twitter is that it is that it accentuates and practically defines the short attention span, narcissistic society we have made around us. This bothers me.

The only thing twitter is USEFUL for is events/promotions. Even then, why not just use facecrack? I guess that is one of my issues as well, a Facebook "page" is this same as a twitter account; why do I have to use two programs to get information I should be able to get on one? Plus, twitter is useless to have any sort of meaningful dialogue or discussion.

Point is, I hate twitter. I can live with Facebook, as it truly helps me connect with the racing community.

The "I'll never own a cell phone for as long as the sky is blue!!!" crowd needed something else to move on to when they all got cell phones. It's a form of hipsterism for the deliberately crotchety.

I am on twitter.. I use it to talk to those people I have never met face to face.. IE.. like the lot of you. It is also useful that one of the people I talk to has a blog that she promotes that promotes other blogs.. so I never have to look for cool blogs

Outside of the news from your naccisistic friends, and the girls in yoga pants- I used to do exactly the same. We called it a newspaper.

There are so many choices for news online, you just like it in 140 character segments? Yea, I wouldn't like that.

I wouldn't call it hate so much, as not really seeing the point. I still don't see the point in FaceSpace or MyBook, and certainly don't see the point in twitter.

Don't know nothing about twitter. Never used it or seen what it looks like and don't really care. Do have a Facebook account though. Kids got me on it as an easier way to share photos. My son lives a couple states away and posts pics of the grandkids there for us to see. Have also found some old friends that lost contact over the years of both of us moving around a lot (military). Kinda wish there was different catagories of friends, like mark some as acquantenances (sp?) that you don't really know well.

Unfortunately I can't get every major newspaper or business journal, that would be impractical, and the news isn't 140 characters long, but luckily the links to the important articles are. It's very similar to using a website like Drudge Report, as an aggregator, not a source. Myspace is gone, and was only ever meant to be an avenue for promoting independent bands and music, and I agree that facebook is dumb, but Twitter is only hated by those who can't comprehend the beneficial ways to use it.

Now mess with their heads by explaining the use of '|' in shell scripts to pipe commands to each other.

Well, that's a good way of putting it about tweeter. Especially since FBers and one who use to Goggle whatever say exactly the same thing. Haters just don't get it.

No, I don't.
