While walking into the grocery store yesterday, we ran into our insurance agent. Hey, what are you doing looking all casual in shorts and T-shirt?

And to his credit, he called my name before I even saw him.

It's still strange to me to see my kids teacher out at a bar with a drink and dressed like a hot girl in her 20s.

Nothing new! I first noticed this when I was 8 years old and my teacher steps out of her new Mustang (1968 fastback) wearing shorts and a halter top. Literally one of those days when your world changes.

So did he pull it off, or what?

My wife teaches 3rd grade (9 year olds.)
The kids literally freeze when they see you at the Grocery store. I think they can't believe that the teaches dont only live in the school building.
As such, my wife nearly refuses to go into Wal-Mart and such on the weekends. Here is our small town, she is bound to run in to some kid she has taught in the last 14 years.

The worst fate has to be small town news people. They are not "big time" so no one feels like they should not approach them. As well, people are so comfortable with them since they see them in their own living room every day that they approach them like they know them.

Oh, gawd, there's a coffee-spitting-on-keyboard guffaw right there.

Reminds me of what I told my brother when I gave his daughter some going-to-college money after he said "she would spend it wisely."

I told him I knew she would because she is pretty enough that she would never have to pay for booze and drugs.

Not the sort of thing a father wants to hear about his daughter going off to school...

My son, who's 5, was enthralled the other day when he saw a police officer at Jimmy John's getting a sandwich.

It was like he never fathomed a cop doing "normal human" activities like eating.

After staring for some time, he finally asked mom... "If he eats here, where do bad guys eat?"

I replaced a windshield for a woman that works for the U of A medical center a couple years ago. Middle of summer and I was all grimey and sweaty.... Fast forward to last spring, my no fiance and I are at a pharmacy school awards brunch with a bunch of random people from the medical center and pharmacy school in attendance. That same woman was sitting right next to us. Fortuantly I was all cleaned up wearing a suit and tie this time.

Boss lectures the entire department in a meeting about poor performance.

You need to use the bathroom immediately after.

He ends up in the stall or urinal next to you.

It's something we all do, but its still awkward.

The thing I do when I see people out of context, is even when I know them very well I may not be able to remember their name. I guess that bit of information is locked in a different part of my brain.

My dad was a high school teacher. When he started back in the late 1930s, if he wanted to buy a six pack of beer he had to drive to the next town so no one would recognize him in the liquor store.

As a recent student, I thought knowing that my professors or teachers being "real" people made them more credible. They weren't just teaching us stuff because we had to learn it, they were teaching us because they wanted us to succeed.

This also worked against certain professors as I doubt they had real world application of the material they were teaching. Many of my professors had never worked a real job, non-academic job.

In college however, seeing professors, especially hots one outside of school made concentrating in class much more difficult. Especially when you're the same age as them or older...

My 8th grade gym teacher won the MTV Spring Break Bikini Contest the summer between 7th and 8th grades. I was totally unable to concentrate on anything Mrs. Berg said in 8th grade. I was in love with them, I mean her.

Never happed to me. But I only had two teachers in my whole 12 year pre-college career that I could ever have had a fantasy over. Now student teachers, that's a bit different.

I may be wrong, but I imagine that if you took an average GRM employee, removed him/her from the impressive corporate offices, got rid of the power suit and dressed them in casual attire, and plopped them down in some everyday non-work setting, that they wouldn't seem all that out of place. Goes to show that some can handle fame and fortune without letting it go to their head.

I had a conversation with a very nice ladyin the store that I knew. Couldn't figure out where I knew her from. It wasn't until I got home that I realized it was my neighbor. The only time I had ever talked to her was over the fence and out of context I was lost.

Seeing any GRM employee in a power suit would seem rather out of context to me.

The last physiology class that I took before graduating from college was taught by a professor who was being considered for a Nobel Prize in medicine. We ended up running into each other after class one day in line at Taco Bell.

I used to see my doctor in the beer store occasionally. He was so doctorly and sophisticated looking, I never would have thought he was a beer drinker. At least it gave us something to talk about when he was doing that examination.

I see people all the time that I recognize, but don't know from where. Sometimes I figure it out, sometimes I don't. The worst one was when a Jehovah's witness came to my door, and I asked them politely to leave. As she was walking toward her van, I let my ultra vicious sounding (but tame) black lab out and it chased her all the way to the van. Two weeks later I went to my parts supplier, and there she was, picking parts in the back. I don't who figured it out first, me or her.
