Sir, I really need you to finish this post.

Posting from my phone and it managed to E36 M3 its pants somehow.

Anyhoo, running calculators online and because of its 3400rpm power peak and 150hp rating, the numbers work with a T3 .60

It's a 1995 F150 2wd long box regular cab manual transmission.

So are you asking what turbo to use, or what?

Because peak power is more a function of 1) the head not breathing and 2) the cam being designed for torque over HP.  You slap a turbo on the engine and suddenly #1 goes bye bye.

Most of the folk at FordSix.com seem to want to start with a T4 series.  Haven't followed any threads there recently to see if they actually build properly for it, or are just slapping them on and dealing with lag

.60 isn't a common hotside for a t3, maybe a possible compressor a/r. It all depends how you want the power delivery, off idle, or mids, or high rpm. There is no free lunch. I would say a t3 .48 spools relatively quick on a 1.8-2l 4cyl it's way too small for a 300 i6, and the .63 is likely as well. .82 I have used on higher boost 4cyls and lower boost 2.8-3.2L 6's and it's about as small as I would use on those engines. May work OK for low rpm on a big 6.

Small T4 like a .58 or .64 would probably be right on.

I seeeeee.

Item 1 does disappear, but item 2 doesn't without a camshaft change.

I'm thinking of the turbo as a remedy for poor flow, so it might be worth calculating for a very likely camshaft swap.

Still, stock numbers seeeem to put it in a nice pocket for a T3 .60 if my figurin' is any good.

I know I'm missing something

See? Hot side vs compressor trim. I was going by compressor trim. I was worried about the hot side being too flow restricted. How does one find hot side maps or other such information?

There used to be a good hot side sizer, maybe borg warner, but can't find it right now. In general I have done this through years of trial and error on motors that I have used different turbos on. You can find parallels if you just go by engine hp and desired power band.

Edit it's borg warner matchbot but I can't get turbine data to work anyway.

You'll want Borg-Warner's turbo matchbot.

A 5 liter engine turning 3400 rpm is going to use as much air at the same volumetric efficiency as a 2.5 liter engine turning 6800.

Good point and my go-to for that would be a gt35r with .82 hotside cool

I had matchbot set up yet never scrolled bast the compressor maps. There is indeed a hot side graph right below and it's become a lot more fun to fiddle with.

Thanks all

Does it give you any reference to hotside a/r though? Sure you can size wheels this way, but without the turbine a/r it's a bit incomplete and very few people have exhaust pressure ratio data.

I still would like to know how far you want to go with this and what your plans are.  Just bench racing?  Are you actually planning something?  Cause I really want to follow along and see where you go with it.

Short answer - a Chinesium turbo is cheaper than a bunch of head work or new cylinder head anymore. But I'm merely bench racing at the moment. This is a next summer me problem.

Awesome.  Well, when I get home I will post some stuff to help you get ideas.

Which turbo are you leaning towards?
