So I usually sell my textbooks to the campus bookstore or the off campus one. But this time three of the books were not getting used any more. So the on campus book store wouldn't buy them and off campus was going to give me $20 for the pair. Where do you other college students sell your textbooks? As a side note if anyone needs a copy of Electric Circuits by Nilsson and Riedel, Fundmentals of Engineering Thermodynamics by Moran and Shapiro or Materials and Processes in Manufacturing by DeGarmos, PM me.

I usually shop amazon for used text books. Ebay may have so decent sellers, but I loath the company and Meg Whitman so I refuse to buy from there.

+1 for Amazon. Might take a while to sell them on there, though.

Has anyone sold stuff on Amazon?

I have sold stuff on Amazon, just describe the book nicely and under price the competition. It isn't instant, I sold 3 books almost right away, and sold one a month or so ago after about a year hiatus, I almost didn't get the book out in time since it had been packed away. So make sure you keep them accessible...

If the books aren't going to be used anymore (I assume a newer edition has come out) they are probably worthless. For the ones that are still saleable, can you sell them directly to another student who will be taking the class? The bookstore has to get their cut to make a profit on reselling them, so you should be able to sell them for less than they resell them and still make more money.

Back in the dark ages when I was in school, people would post for sale ads on bulletin boards around school, like in the student union or in the dorms. Nowadays there must be some online campus message board where you'll find your best audience.

In my case, the newer edition is what the bookstore sells, and the older edition is worthless to the bookstore. But it still has quite a bit of value on a bigger market.

Also, if you have a Facebook page, post up that you have them available, it would be easiest to sell them on campus, as you know professors might still teach out of older editions...

My daughter sold some nursing textbooks through Amazon and got good money for some of them.

I don't think I bought a single "current edition" of any textbook during my last few years of university. The older ones are generally 99% the same as the "current" one, and the students know this. (The profs do too and sometimes they will accommodate older editions - if they don't have a vested financial interest in the text!) You can probably still get some cash for them from the right buyer.

My university used to have their own USENET classifieds group where I had some luck selling mine. Try seeing if your school has a modern equivalent.
