Here at the theater we have a massive boiler that used to supply heat. In 2008 we upgraded to gas forced air so this puppy is occupying precious space. (this theater is like 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag)
Does it have any value other than scrap? Who would I contact to possibly buy it? I hit up some local HVAC contractors and they don't seem to want it, but I'm sure it has tons of life left in it and I don't want to just toss it if it has value.
Its big. Like 4x8x5 big, with a ton of cast iron pipe associated with it.

Im sure someone could make use of it, finding that one someone may be difficult... Id bet a scrapper would take it though.
What's the HP rating on it. A quick google search is showing used prices anywhere from $1500 for a 10hp to $30k for a 200hp.

My limited experience is that used boilers are also impossible to get rid of. We had a site with an almost brand new boiler (a big one) that sat on skids and they couldn't give it away.
Have it checked for asbestos BTW. Boiler jacket and pipe lagging can contain some bodacious asbestos.

Can't find a HP rating on it (other than a 1/2hp blower) but its 1,477,000 BTU/HR
if this googled code is correct, its 580hp
Btu/h↔hp 1 hp = 2544.4337475448 Btu/h
Can't be that much. The 250hp ones listed on that site are the size of a tractor trailer.

It was installed in 1983, so it shouldn't be, but it sure looks asbestos-ish.
1477000btu/hr = 44.122 boiler HP.

I worked for the Australians for awhile and "old boiler" was a slang term for "wife" for them, so I came in here expecting something different.
My suggestion of an axe and a 100lb bag of lye would therefore be irrelevant.

That thought crossed my mind, but burying this thing wouldn't be as easy as a SWMBO

Then the boiler shouldn't have it but unless the piping was changed out, it could. The lines may be fiberglass, but the hard joints are suspect.
I pretty frequently see similar sized boilers on craigslist, and they don't stay listed for very long.
Looking at the boiler on the real computer, that may be a sellable item. Phones suck for the internets.
