Hive,

My dad is 86, lives alone, and isn't doing very well (mostly cognitively but not great physically either).

He was drafted into the army around 1959 and served the standard period of time (two years I think) and was honorary discharged.

He was based at Fort Ord, CA and never deployed to a combat zone which, based on what little I've learned, makes him less eligible for assistance.

I'm calling the local VA office today (Ventura, CA) and would really appreciate any guidance you may have.

Basically, I'm looking for the VA to provide an assessment of what he needs as he remembers his service fondly and is likely to listen to them.

Thoughts?

I'll have my wife get in touch with you. Her father is in VA assisted living and it can be a challenge to deal with them.
