This web site crosses over so many points in life it's no longer funny. I need the latest news:GRM. I need something funny: GRM. I need to fix my shower: GRM.
But when the wife recognizes a song on a TV show and then points it out to me--one I don't recall hearing--then come here and there is a link to a Muppets version of it...
THE NEXT DAY!
I mean, come on. Things just do that do they?
Best web-site EVER!
Haas anyone else noticed the GRM forum popping up on the first page of google results for totally random searches?
I had a co-worker look over my shoulder and go "Oh that forum!" I was like what do you mean and he said I always seem to end up there when looking for random things. That person was not a car person.
Thats cause GRM is friggen awesome.
GRM FTW!
But, we already knew that.

We could make a game out of this - whoever finds the forum with the most bizarre search terms wins... I dunno? What would be a good prize?
This was hardly a surprising result, but I once searched Google images for "basket case Europa" and three of the results on the first page were from the Readers' Rides. Here's a screencap:

Now that I think about it, a basket case Europa would be a great prize. I'm sure we can find one for free somewhere...

Google does not pull up the same answers in the same order for all people. Where you travel on the internet and therefore your common interests are taking into account in the search results.
You spend a lot of time on GRM and therefore GRM is highly ranked on the results.
I am sure that other more IT-centric people can explain this better than me.
Want to try a test, use your smartphone to search the same term and you should get different result.
^^^this.
The same thing will happen if you
1) do a search.
2) log out of any google accounts
3) clear your cookies
4) do the same search.
Example: I just searched for '1932 datsun' while logged in to a few google accounts, and six of the results on the front page were about my build. I started a different browser, did the same search without logging into anything, and only four of the results on the front page involved my build.
I'm guessing that if one of you guys did that search, none (or at best, one) of the links would involve me.
This is part of the search filter buble, and it is a problem because they do it to news, too......different people see different news, and I think this leads to polarization in society, since people are more likely to be shown news from sites they are known to already agree with.

I agree that it's amazing what you learn on this board. My wife laughs when I post something non-car related on a (this) car board. I remember telling her "no really, they want to know about my veggie oil spill" or "I'm sure they'll know how to fix the toilet".
I have not been let down yet....
