Offensive humor is fine as long as cartoon characters are doing it. But actual real live actors!? ZOMG teh horror!!!111uno

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/17/showbiz/tv/dads-tv-offensive/

The kind of jokes that are a staple of Family Guy and American Dad suddenly become crimes against humanity. See also: the times he hosted the Oscars.

Either he's being un-ironically racist all the time or these same critics are simply acting like anything animated doesn't exist. I would like them to choose.

Or, leave it to parents. I'm a big Family Guy fan, but my kids are not allowed to watch it, even at 13. It is racist, homophobic, overly sexual, etc, etc. And funny. I'm an adult, I can deal with that. People that let their young kids watch shows that aren't appropriate for them reap what they sow, IMO.

  • If you don't like it, don't watch it.

  • If you don't want your kids to watch it, don't let them.

  • If you cannot control what your kids watch, that's the problem you need to solve.

In modern usage, the word puritan is often used to describe someone who is strict in matters of sexual morality, disapproves of recreation, and wishes to impose these beliefs on others.

Unfortunately, the rest of society has to reap what those jackasses sow as well.

But I do agree...just with one modified point added in there

Even more fake. Or at least, on the whole, more deserving of being nuked from orbit.

Face it, people. A "politically correct" world is a world without humor. I boldly predict that comedy will be a lost art in another decade.

Thank you! Thank you! Please remember to tip your server!

Absolutely. There is indeed a place for Nazi jokes. It is actually a VERY funny topic of comedy--however, a sense of humor is required to get the joke.

Howard Stern and Gilbert Gottfried (both Jewish) employ Nazi/anti-Semitic humor quite a bit and it kills.

Shock value and comedy go hand in hand. Outrageous is funny. It doesn't mean the subject matter is being condoned--sometimes (always) it's good to get a reaction of "holy E36 M3 they didn't just say that".

We're so busy leaving no child behind and giving them trophies that we can't have any cutting humor anymore.

You know what's sad?

Watch a modern Comedy Roast program and count the truly funny jokes. I'll even give you the Greg Giraldo roasts:

Now go back and watch one of Dean Martin's Comedy Roasts.

Yeah. PC is killing humor and replacing it with curse words and sexual innuendo.

Probably the episode of Family Guy I laughed the most at (note: I've not actively watched it in some time...) was the episode where Peter & Meg knocked out the TV feed to town and he had to go without TV- and William Shatner/Captain Kirk showed up. Funniest moment in the whole episode for me was one of the short 'cut segments' when IIRC Peter was trying to convince the others to go to a fair with him- and they show a row of food stands with a guy who looks like Hitler behind the German one. He glances over to one side, and suddenly clubs the guy running the Polish Sausage stand next door, taking over standing at his stall- and then eyes the booth next door to that one (which I believe was a French crepe stand...).

I like Family Guy, but I suspect this new sitcom Dads won't last. Not because it's offensive, but it just doesn't look like it's going to be very funny.

This opinion is based only on the previews, so I could be wrong.

All that I've seen of it was a short clip I saw when we left the TV on after the news last night (GF wanted to see the latest on the Navy Yard shootings) and the Arsenio Hall show came on. They had the two main actors from Dads on and showed a clip of it- and it was dull and completely unfunny.

golf clap

Hey, I was as surprised as anyone else that it was on. Said to the GF when it started, "Wait, he still has a show??" but at some point during one of the interviews one of the guys congratulated him for being back on the air, so I assumed it was fairly new. No idea WHY though, as I didn't find any of the monologue funny nor many of the interviews I saw or clips they showed that interesting. Only one bit was kind of funny and that was mocking the 'kiss cam' that they have at sporting events.

Arsenio's show started up Monday night.

As for the new controversial show... I have no idea whether I'll watch it after tonight. It competes with NCIS on Tuesday nights and that's not going to work.

Yeah, that's what has me most annoyed about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (one of the only new shows I have any interest in)- that it airs exactly opposite NCIS on Tuesdays, undoubtedly intentionally. Thankfully there's not anything ELSE I (or the GF) care about Tuesday nights, so I can DVR Agents of SHIELD and watch NCIS live.
