Did any of you folks watch this? I'm watching it on Netflix now. Typically I'll watch just about any car show because, car shows are like sex and crack, even a bad car show is pretty good. I like it and I'll finish watching the second season but I'm annoyed by the show organizer/producer guy. He's always saying "if you're laying up, you'll go home. You better be pushing it out there!" then if you drop a wheel off the course twice he'll send a driver home. Uh, you want these guys to be at 10/10ths the whole time but they can never drop 1/2 a tread off the course? Have you EVER raced? He pisses and moans about the dust and rocks that it brings on the track. Yeah, don't build a track in the middle of a million acre sandbox and it won't be a problem!
Anytime a car spins they get berated and threatened with going home and there is a full course yellow!?!? Good lord man, let these people race! At one point it was funny because they realized that there wasn't much competition going on because everyone was afraid to push the limits of the car so they pull a full-course yellow to bunch the field then tell at them for not racing hard enough. This guy must watch too much NASCAR.
But, I'm off to watch another episode now....

Is this the one that raced the Solstices? If so, I started watching it on Netflix also 2 weeks ago. I couldn't make it through the third episode. The host/producer was always trying to make some drama and I couldn't stand him anymore. Even though I did LMAO when the kid turned down RMR as a sponsor. I mean really you're gonna race a Solstice and you're going to turn down Rhys Millen?

That should be the one with Michael Skeen. He was a Spec E30 racer that is now a pro. He probably would have won the whole thing if he wasn't wrecked out of the show.

You are correct it was the show racing Solstices Solsti? And yes Mike Skeen was the guy to beat in my opinion. He raced Spec E30 for several years with NASA as well as other open wheel series earlier in his career. Really stand up guy, totally unassuming and a real Gentleman racer. No I am not the persident of his fan club, but I am a fan. As for the show I watched a few episodes but couldn't get past the BS others have mentioned. It just seemed to contrived for me to enjoy.

Wait until you get to the pit stop requirement they add to the final race... so um, yeah, you are looking for the best driver and this is what you come up with to determine that.

The show seemed to have potential, just way to "reality". That track was way to narrow to provide the racing they wanted. It needed to be much more passing friendly.

i know a guy who wound up with a complete car plus a spare engine from that show. he sold the car and is putting the spare engine in an '04 (iirc) mazdaspeed miata. lighter and way more grunt, who can argue with that?

I remember watching it when it first aired.

I also remember not actually watching every episode. Probably for all of the complaints listed above.

That was the one where Mike Skeen was clearly better than everyone else and still managed to get screwed out of the prize by bogus TV drama?

SOOO much potential but when all your race is the same track every time in different configurations your gonna lose people. And it really tried to be too much, too much drama, just tried too hard.... but there were points that were SWEET...

Yeah, that's how I feel. It could have been great but they were hamstringing the racing for the sake of drama. I mean, I am expecting a stop-and-go penalty for a squealing tire!
"Push it, push it, push it hard. But don't make any dust here in the desert. If you don't pass you go home." How is that looking for the best driver?

I saw some episodes of Bullrun. At least it lived up to it's premise. Setup says it looking for the best driver, but it's totally not. Quite the opposite really.

I only watched Setup when i found out Hunt and Skeen were on there.

I've had the privilege to be in a car piloted by Skeen.

is all I can say about that is experience . . .

BTW, we know what happened to Skeen, but what happened to the eventual winner of this farce. He got the ride and then disappeared . . .

I don't think they get a ride with Ponticrap. I think they can only "test" for them. So, in return for having their name slathered all over the place, Pontiac just had to allow someone to drive their race car for 10 minutes? Sweet deal.

The winner ran at the 24hrs. with a Pontiac GTO team.

Did they? The whole show they just kept saying "the chance to run the 24 hours" and "the chance to test for Pontiac". Did they actually race as a condition of winning the show?

Interesting to discover the people who make such tripe (the TV series) are just as vile off-screen as they are on it..
