Because so many here "swing that way", I thought I'd gay the place up a little more and solicit opinions on sandals/flip-flops that will look good with my banana hammock on trips to the pool. I've got a few pairs of sandals, so I'm really leaning toward something like a flip-flop that's super easy on and off. And I absolutely despise Crocs! Comfort and quality construction are paramount. Budget is under $60.
I got a pair of Sperry flip-flops three or four years ago on clearance for $20. I've been very impressed with the durability and comfort. They actually have a fair amount of arch support, which is something that's hard to find in a flip-flop/sandal. They're still not something you want to stand around in all day, but I doubt there are any sandals out there that will beat a good running shoe for overall comfort.
In reply to psteav:
Yeah, I've had good luck with Sperry stuff over the years. Been a while since I've bought them. I suspect I'll pay more than $20 unless I wait until late in the season.
I had a pair of Teva open toed things once but I smashed my big toe on a table leg.
This sort of thing is as close as I get to sandals. Waterproof, you can jump out of a kayak and not cut the E36 M3 out of your feet on things under the water, you can hike, bike, etc. and even navigate a crowded bar without mashing toes. Lots of players in this space... Merrell, Orvis, Keen, LL Bean, etc.

EDIT: Anything that requires shuffling to keep it on or a web between the toes to operate is an abomination and only for protecting against foot disease in public showers no matter how gay you are.
i have had the same pair of cheap flip flops from old navy for at least 8+ years now. foam soles, leather upper part (like where your foot sits), and canvas like straps. comfy and light, i will probably be disappointed when i need to replace them.
i think i would claim they have quality construction since they have lasted this long.
when I read the thread title, I thought someone was suggesting canoes.
But then I saw who posted.
I wear sandals in the summer/casual, since they are comfortable. Find ones that fit, just wear them. The issue I've consistently had was that they start to collapse, and then I find out how good they are.
Good luck in finding them- I take a lot of time, and still struggle to find good ones.

Crocs.
No, seriously. Check out their sandals. Well made and very comfrotable with actual arch support. They don't look like crocs either. They look like flip flops.
Better than the crocs, but harder to find, are Newalks. Made by (or licensed by) Birkenstock. Mine are a hard rubber flip flop that I got on sale for about $10 because they are an ugly marbled blue and pink color. Built in arch support just like Birkenstock is famous for.

Excuse me? Nothing says sexy summer footwear like my neon pink and orange Crocs flipflops.
Seriously, they do have a whole lot of sandals and flipflops.
Sanuk Beer Cozy flip flops. Most comfortable flip flops ever. I basically live in them when I am not working on cars or at work during the spring and summer.

IMHO as comfortable as Crocs without looking like a complete fool.
I can't wear flip flops because I'm a klutz and end up tripping on them. My alternative was that '80's fashion icon:
TIDDIES!!

I've had a few pairs of Reef Fannings... because bottle opener.

Intriguing! Can't imagine that I've never heard of them. I really like the name!
Maybe people were raving about them and I thought they were talking about something else!

same here....I was all set to sink some paddle-craft
I live in sandals a great deal of the year when I'm not at work or in the garage. Even through GA winters, a good pair of wool socks, sandals and jeans are a win for me.
My preferred brand is Teva, they are more comfortable to me and last forever. I can't stand the thing between my toes of flip flops, though, and I generally want something that velcros around my ankle for stability. When I do go for the slip on sandal for beach and such, it's a cheap knock-off Birkenstock.

bought some $6 cheapo foam/rubber sandals in San Diego about 5 years ago. Probably my favorite sandals of all time. Leaves a kickass tanline on my feet. It's not advisable, but I wear them 90% of the time I'm working on cars outside, too.
In reply to psteav:
Rainbows have good arch support, im told. And apparently fit in here.
I lived in Panama Central america from my preteens untill my mid teens and then moved to Panama city, FL... I've worn sandles year around for over 2 decades now...
if i'm actually moving around I love my teva's... they last me several years before they need to be replaced... I think the older ones where built better but the newer ones are more comfortable... when my current ones finally die (had em for about 3 years and expect another year out of em) I may go with a pair of chaco's...
if I don't plan on doing a lot of walking I just use my Adidas addisage slides (so just flops)... I started buying these back in HS and they last me 6 months to a year... i love them.

Frankly, with all this male eye candy on display, I can't imagine that none of the ladies have chimed in with what they like on their men.
In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker:
I've got a pair of Keens very similar to that that were the only shoe I wore last week when walking around in Germany and Europe (and driving on the Nurburgring- surprisingly they work VERY well as driving shoes), putting in an average of 10 miles a day with no foot problems. A thin pair of socks and they're comfortable for lots of walking, ditch the socks and they're good around water. Though under neither circumstance does SWMBO want to be seen around me when wearing them.
I've been really happy with Keens in general- got a pair of 'steel toe' shoes about a year ago due to needing them for the shop floor at work and they quickly became my favorite non-office shoe.
I can't stand flip-flops for anything outside of poolside or the locker room...
