Shaving in the shower is the way to go. Get a stick on mirror for the wall. Start at the neck and work your way up. It helps to kind of squeegee the water off of your head before you lather up, otherwise you can get drips in the eyes.

Drips in the eyes sucks.

Bump...

Recommendations for a good razor with either:

A) Replaceable cartidges or

B) Replaceable blade (safety razor style)

Right now use a Schick Xtreme 3.  It is disposable which I dislike, but the head can flex (not just pivot) pretty well which is good.

The headblade (roller thingy) looks like it would work well for 80% of my head, but getting close to the ears could be a problem?  Any experience there?  I also can't tell from the site if the blade flexes.  It appears to be attached at the outer edges, but has some sort of stop in the center that would prevent flex.

I bought that.. once a week and I'm good. I replace the blades once a year.

Trimmer. No guard.  Once a week.

Been doing this for about 20 years now. Buzzers used to last me a year or 2. Last time i spent another 10-15$ on Wahl buzzers, ive been using them for probably 14 years, still work great! Shaved my head with a razor a few times but dont bother anymore. Within a few days its as long as it would be with the buzzers.

So I've been using Wahl trimmers without the guard for a few years. I get about 6 months out of them before I need to start taking them apart several times a trim.

At fist I thought it was just the cordless dying so I bought a corded one. Same thing, 6 months old, it will get the beard, then needs stripped and put together 2-4 times to get the horseshoe of hair going around my head. My hair is definitely not getting thicker.

What can I do to make them work like new for longer than 6 months?

On your head?  I think I might die from blood loss.

Really? I've been using the same Wahl about once a week for at least 3 years with no disassembly. Your hair must be like aircraft cable strands!

Pretty close actually. Before it all fell out, I would regularly jam the trimmers at the barber if I let it go more than a month or two.

Head, face, all the same. Lately I've just been using the clippers without a guard, that gets me down very close, and then if I want to shave clean, the safety razor works fine. I do have my wife do the back of my head- the contortions and such back there make cuts more likely.

I've used Wahl trimmers for the last 20+ years or so. I've only had to replace them once. I shave about once every 2 weeks though. YMMV.

Ah.  I don't have anyone trustworthy that I would let take a razor to my scalp.

I wish they had a rollery-do razor thing that used a safety razor blade.  I like safety razor blades because of the minimal waste compared to modern razors.

I finally grew weary of the cheap Wahl stuff, and bought the old school Oster Classic 76 for my noggin.

I wear a beard off and on, so have several different blades for it, ranging from #000 to #3 1/2. Generally a 1A for my head and beard once a week, colder parts of WInter I up to a 2 or 3+ for beard, and a 1.5 for hair, Summer drops to clean shave and still 1A for head.  Sounds ridiculous to pay over $100 (think it was $90 when I bought, now $140-155) for a trimmer, but the thing has been going steady for 12 years now, and seems like it would easily go 12 more.
