That would give a person that is trained to act instinctively plenty of time to get a rifle and start toward the door. I hope these bastards are convicted and spend life in prison, the needle is too good for them.

Needle? Prison? They are still at work on SWAT team doing the same job they did before. The guy who ordered the raid is still there working too. The local law enforcement is defending the action as just. No one will answer for this.

Sorry, as a Canadian, this is all sorts of odd to my little brain (sure, we have a couple of .22's in the garage, but that's not really the same thing).

Spend a couple weeks in Arizona. It'll all make sense.

This was a state sanctioned hit. That's all there is to it. I am a middle aged citizen with no criminal record of any sort, an independent business owner, and I fear the cops far more than the criminals. What's gonna be the response next time? I see blackdressed armed ninjas coming to my door, I guarantee the safety won't be on. I won't submit to murderous thugs, man. They've made sure that we all know that when it happens to us, we have nothing left to lose. Great. Juuust great.

I did, and it sickened me. This video needs to be on the National News ASAP.

Here's a hint guys. If the person you vote for in November has an R or a D next to their name, they support this bullE36 M3.

Ron Paul is running with an "R" next to his name. AFAIK, he's the only R or D presidential candidate thus far who's against prohibition.

Yeah, it was a generalization, but one with few exceptions. Fortunately, Paul is one of them.

Just saw the video.

Strikes me as hugely negligent, but not purposeful. The cops weren't moving tactically, and the guy breached the door like he was there to sell cookies. It doesn't make sense...poorly executed, poorly planned.

It makes the whole thing even more sad and disappointing.

Yeah, the tax payers should definitley have to pick up the tab on this one.

Ummm no.

In reality, everyone who OK'd or was involved with the raid goes on trial for the minimum of negligence and whatever else, the maximum 1st degree murder.

Unfortunately, the exact opposite will happen. The taxpayers end up saddled with a multi-million dollar settlement, and the people who were behind this keep their jobs.

Just disgusting.

I can't address others opinions of police but I will say that the service of this warrant was negligent. Humans, and police, are not perfect and mistakes can and will be made but I can see huge systemic flaws in the execution and planning of the warrant service. Additionally I can see that this team is hugely deficient in training. This department needs to evaluate whether they should have a tactical warrant team at all until they can cover some basic training in warrant service and planning. I can only imagine what the complainant lawyer will find when he subpoenas the warrant plan and the training records for the team involved when this goes civil.

In reply to Ojala:

I too wondered about their training. Where I'm from in the east SWAT and SERT are controlled by the State Police unless it's a major city that has their own specialized units. Non-metro or rural County Sheriffs Depts. serves warrants but go in behind the SP. Maybe they operate differently out west.

I remember the public rumblings about ten years ago over the 'militarization' of police units. With over 40 needless deaths (Google) those concerns have been justified IMO.

Does he need a reason? Welcome to America. Even if it was an actual assault rifle (select fire) its only a few taxes away.

John Brown wrote: Bob, I think you may be missing my point. My prevailing thought was NOT to let the police traipse in doing whatever they want. It was that IF SOMEONE IS BLOWING THROUGH YOUR FRONT DOOR MAKE DAMN SURE IT IS NOT THE COPS BEFORE LEVELING A SEMI-AUTOMATIC FIREARM (THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE IT'S FULLY AUTOMATIC COUNTERPART) AT THEM IN A POORLY DEFENDED POSITION. Don't get me wrong, the officers involved are 100% responsible for the young mans death WITH CAUSE. I think no-knock raids are a violation of personal privacy. I think owning an AR-15, while legal, is just asking for trouble. I fault all parties in this affair and my heart truly goes out to the wife and children. If the Marine was hit with two or three rounds I could say it was because he was holding a gun. There is absolutely no excuse for 70 spent rounds, 60 hits, and an hour before emergency services intervention. I was not a Marine. I was never in a hot zone. I have not been in the position where I would be having cops crash through my doors. I do not know why a trained soldier would leave himself in such a tactically poor position once the E36 M3 hit the fan. The whole episode makes me sick. I hope there is some justice to come from this.

Wait, check first? Ive been in an home invasion situation. You dont have time to formulate thoughts (this is why people train) let alone check ID's.

A home invasion is an home invasion. I will protect me and mine, and so should you. The police here made a mistake, and got lucky, and the wrong man died.

Tactically poor positon? So, with how our law enforcement now operates, do we citizens need to be in a constant state of alert to keep from being riddled with bullets?

Just as a note John, I know my way of wording things can be standoffish, I dont mean it to be. This is a hot subject for me.

I blame PONG.

Really, think about it.

Had PONG not bet so awesome we never would have Call of Duty, which has led us down the path of moral insensitivity with the belief that it is okay to subdue an armed suspect (not convicted of but SUSPECT) by acting this way.

There are no extra lives in this game people.

PS: Stossel did a GREAT show a couple months ago on how law enforcement is getting absolutely out of control with SWAT teams. The accidental raid on a MAYOR'S mansion where his dogs were immediately shot and killed is particularly troubling.
