I've shipped cars before, but they ran. San Antonio, Tx to Albany, NY; $750. My current pickemup came from Atlanta for $600. Your needs go up on a big distribution board and the next available carrier gets the gig. However it could be a long wait, but if you'd like to throw more cash at it, we can do this sooner.

It took 3 months to get the pickup moved.

I started researching carriers for a powerless trailer that's 4' wide X 5' high X 30 ft. long. The length is an issue, it takes up the room of 2 cars. It can't go on a car carrier because there is no 30 ft straight zone on a carrier.

On a message board similar to this one, a guy posted that he was driving from Sacramento, Ca to Kentucky with an empty trailer and would carry something if you kicked in for gas. I called. "Nah, it's already a trailer, I'll just pull it." Not knowing the wheel bearing soundness or condition of the tires, I didn't really want to do this. Then he says "...for $0,80 per mile".

Pass.

Someone recommended a carrier they've used, I called; they would go door to door (Sacramento to Albany) for $3500.

I ended up using State by State Transportation Inc. statebystatetransporters.com They set me up with a retired couple who do this to see the country. The 30 ft. trailer with a sailplane inside goes on their lowboy trailer. They pick it up tomorrow and I see it on Tuesday. All for $1950. This includes $100,000 of insurance. That's door to door for ~$0.70 per mile.

I'm happy.

I'm excited!

I'm going to pick out trailer paint.

There is a show on Discovery about this kind of hauler. People bid on haul jobs posted on a website somewhere. Might be beneficial for this crowd to figure out where.

Please tell me that the glider will get a paint scheme similar to the Batvan! Why are there no solid black gliders anyway?

None at the moment. I've never even been up in one. I do think they're beautiful machines though and truly admire the ability to stay aloft for long periods and do safe cross country flights.

I used to have a couple of R/C planes that I enjoyed very much.

Uship is kind of like a reverse auction site for shipping things. You post what you want shipped and to where and people bid how much they would do it for. You go with the lowest bidder, or whomever you want (they have feedback ratings to help determine if they are trustworthy or not). Either way, sounds like you got it figured out but keep it in mind for next time. Post some pics
