Picked one of these up at Home Depot for $140. 200k BTU, and I like the 360° aspect, as opposed to a salamander blasting away only at what it's aimed at.

Hopefully this will get me thru this winter, and then I can come up with my permanent source of heat.

Gonna pick up a two 100lb propane tanks this weekend, and see how it goes.

Yeah... you'll need some decent sized tanks... A shop I go to used to have one of those - a std 20 lb tank doesn't last a day. Also bear in mind, you may have to have the propane delivered to fill those.

A winter of dealing with it will definitely make you want to come up with a more permanent solution.

My garage is about 16 by 25. Insulated with 1 1/8 closed cell foam. Left gaps in the ceiling insulation for venting.

I crack the overhead door open about 2" and use a 30k btu kerosene heater. The outside temp was 25 degrees the other day and I was working in the garage with a long sleeve t shirt on and was very comfortable.

But, it does stink- especially at start up and shut down. To help that I open the doors all the way and let it burn for about a half hour, then close it up to heat it. It works pretty good!

Putting something on the floor is a big help too.

I just have an old barrel stove in my shop.
