IIRC those are full time 4x4, V8 is going to be a 318 or 360, either way more cubes are a stroker crank away. craptastic gas mileage, but you should be able to lock the front and rears independently, has a low range. I wanted one years ago, still wouldn't mind one, but finding a decent one is a chore. I believe the back cap comes off. I've got to agree though. Drop a 12v CTD in, and turn up the boost, fab really nasty skid plates up, roo bars out front and lots of lights.... gotta have light. Besides it will open up all kinds of new places to take your bike.
Looking at the pics, the carb looks to big for the wimpy little thing they used to put on 318s. You may be in luck.
The perfect ZAV is on BAT right now

I recall a chicken processing plant near St. Louis that was built with technology to process all the leftover guts into enough energy to supposedly run the plant. I think if you could fit a slightly smaller version of that into the back of a truck, you might be set.
IMO ultimate Zav!
Just a thought!

Great minds, Rob, great minds.
Is it possible to compost zombies and harvest the methane gas? Compress said gas and run the engiines off that...
...or just burn the zombies in your steam powered ZAV. Was the Stanley steamer the first ZAV?
The world can be saved by steam!
was a zav aquired? non zombie minds want to know.
I got my Ramcharger for $400. Good times. Strong as an ox. The top does not come off the late models. Mine has the 5.7L/360. Manual transfer case. Did surprisingly well off road and in the mud considering I have crap tires on it. It is hard to find an RC in good shape, though, but they look really good when they are in good shape. when they're in bad shape they look like mine. Good luck!

Unfortunately, no. Now I'm thinking of buying a staffer's 740 turbo for $300. Unfortunately, the parents aren't happy with the idea of a beat-up turbo brick sitting in their front yard. I'm still trying to get real permission
I'm also trying to convince friends to let me keep a beat up car in their driveway. So far, they've said no.

Your MOM sys NO? WTF, this is GRM, not HRM. We support you, totally. Really. Soon enough, it will be your wife who you will need to pay attention to, but for now it's only Mom. (Ducks and hides, expecting major grief from Margie)
Isn't Karl somewhere around you guys? You could probably tuck another car in there without him noticing.
My yard is open for another few cars. Too bad I'm an hour away. Also too bad is that my ZAV truck died in a crash with a Taurus.
Self-storage lots can be your friend. I made friends with the manager at a self-storage place and even though they specifically disallow working on cars, she let me as long as I was clean and respectful. I was 14, had to ride my bike to get there, but was successfully able to hide 2 project cars from my mom. My younger brother was able to hide a motorcycle (huge no-no according to my mother) from her there too.
Of course, me posting this on a public forum that your mom frequents may not have been the best idea. But, it sounds like they just don't want it in the yard and not just not wanting you to have it.

So, what I heard is that you have a great idea for a super low-buck GRM project car. You will buy the car, fix it up, and write the articles. You are not doing this for yourself, but rather for your parents. They need your help.
I will pull my subscription if Tommy doesn't get to write an article (series?) on his soon-to-be-acquired ZAV.

It clearly wasn't a sufficient ZAV if it was taken down by a Taurus.

True. Hell, most Tauruses are driven by zombies.
I blame it on the bumper that folded up instead of transferring energy into the rest of the truck. If it were an OEM bumper or a tube bumper, it would have been in the back seat of that Taurus.
Well, good thing you found out when you did instead of in the midst of ramming zombie hoards. That would suck.
Back from the dead!!!!!
I never ended up buying a truck, but at this point in my life I use the E30 like a pickup, and I'm tired of nearly scratching/denting/molesting it.
There are slightly different requirements this time:
-
Must be able to tow an open trailer with a race-prepped Spitfire, tools, spares, etc.
-
Must be able to carry motorcycles out of the woods when they break.
-
Must be able to keep up with slightly modified Jeeps in deep sugar sand.
-
Must be able to pull said Jeeps out of sugar sand.
-
Must have manual transmission.
-
Must have enough room to sleep in at events.
-
Must be able to carry 2-4 people with surfboards through beach sand.
Oh, and the budget has now increased, too. I'm looking to dump anywhere from $800-$1200 (I'll stretch it if I really need to) on a truck. I'm thinking a mid 80s pickup with a topper fits the bill perfectly. Planned time of acquisition is this summer.
