Today is fleet maintenance day at the Logdog estate. My wife and I have been dividing and conquering the work. While she was changing the oil in her truck I saw what can best be described as Short People Problems.

I understand completely. When I had my C-70 GMC I had a ladder to climb in and stand on the frame rail.
I'm something like 6'0"-6'1", I'd probably be standing on my toes adding oil on one of those.
I call full size trucks from the mid 2000s onward "extra full size".
Oh, it's not that bad if you don't bro them out. Although my pushbar does have a step built in.
Here's the real solution.
that's not short people problems. you got pretty close to the same truck as me. i'm 6'0 and i'm not head and shoulders above the hood. it's so stinking tall i'm pretty sure i'll need at least one step up to get to the oil fill.
I've a stand that hangs off the front wheel of the truck. I use it when working on it. I've ginned up platforms across the front of vehicles. Grand father created some engine bay platforms back in the day.
Geez, I bumped my shopping cart once into a midget (short person, challenged, little?) "I'm sorry, are you OK?"
"Well I'm not happy."
Hell, which one are you then?
...be here all week.
Oil filter placement on those is a bear also, I cut a hole in the fender liner to be able to get to it.
I guess this is why Ford now has the retractable steps under the doors? I saw them in use the other day, looked very handy, wonder how they take abuse

You'd be mad too if you were at fart height.
As big as trucks have gotten I'm surprised they haven't moved to tilt noses.
Don't they have cutouts in the front bumper for your feets? I know Dodges used to and I think that the Fords at work do too.
From the thread title, I thought it was about this.... My wife is 4'11" and we had these in a previous car.
I washed our E-150 yesterday. I used a 6' step ladder and still ended up with a strip down the middle of the roof of dirt and pollen. I need to use a brush on a stick to reach it or grow my arms another foot longer.
so exactly why are trucks getting so big? The local chevy dealer has a shop in the mall and cars are outside and inside the mall. The one 4x4 they have in the mall, when I stand next to it, I can rest my chin on door edge where the glass meets.. and I am 5'11".
Yet my Disco, which is probably a more capable off road vehicle, it's like stepping up into a tall wagon.
Because people buy them. Want there to be more small trucks? Vote with your wallet. If you're not buying new trucks, then you don't get a say.
Mine's big because it's wrapped around a 6.7L turbodiesel.

I blame tires. My '79 Chevy C10 had something like 205/75R15, which is maybe 27" tall?
A 2016 Chevy 1500 comes with 255/70R17. Those are 31". There's 4" right there.
