How does she get their little legs apart?

+1 for the smell of old books

+ Eleventy five for the smell of a woman with poor impulse control.

Love that smell.

To me it smells like fish slime.  There were quite a few pesticides I liked the smell of.  But some are down right vile.

Dad? Is that you?

One of my father's pearls of wisdom was: "If she's crazy enough to hit you with a frying pan, she's crazy in bed too!"

I was coming to comment on this too!

It seems that all old engines have that same smell when you get them apart! Years of deposits? I don’t really know.

Race fuel and castor oil is a darn fine scent. So much so that Klotz makes a candle that smells like it!

That’s good to know. My White Castle candle is about finished.

'70s vinyl interior.

OK, My mom's first car was a '77 Buick Special (think A-body) and it had a white vinyl interior.  The smell of '70s vinyl reminds me of being a little kid and going to the beach.  (Also:   Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and "Rapture")

I think that smell is burnt engine oil. I think its most pungent from the main bolts because that oil gets in there, cokes up a bit an never gets back out really. Just cooks for years.

Doc Brown:

You would have loved the Super Late Model 358 I tore down years ago. The water pump belt came off at some point in the feature and the driver kept his foot in it till a piston seized. It was that smell... x10! I couldn't stand it and the shop reeked of it for a week! I can still taste it in my mind all these years later, blech!

I do a lot of rear main seals on 50+ year old engines.  I smell That Smell a lot.  That's what I figure it is, but to paraphrase Marge Simpson, how do you turn Valvoline into THAT?

This may have been covered.

You know what hasn't been covered?  E85.  Because that E36 M3 is nasty both before and after being processed by an internal combustion engine.

I'll second black powder and add fireworks. Love that burned sulfur smell.

Anything old. Old houses, old clocks, old books, old music instruments, pretty much you name it. Half the reason I wander antique stores is for the smell.

Cigarettes. I love the smell of cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. It's the main reason I smoked for 30 years. I quit 4 years ago and still love the smell. If there's a smoker in the area, I'm probably going to be standing down wind of them. In another couple of years, I'm pretty sure I'm going to break out my collection of pipes and pipe tobacco and see if they still work. I've got one tobacco called Grandma's Kitchen that is superb and another called 10 to Midnight that is wonderful. They are all sealed up in mason jars, along with a couple of dozen other blends, just waiting for the right occasion.
